Video Lesson One "power Chords", Help...

Can anyone help me understand the diagrams in video lesson one, the one that teaches the power chords because these diagrams with the colorful little dots on em make no sense to me, thank you for your help...

That is all you need to know. Not the dots. That above is a G5 power chord. The 3 means you play a note at the 3rd fret from the string at the top of the guitar and the 5th fret on the string below which is a fifth up from the root note which in this case is the 3rd fret which is a G. The 5th fret on the a string is a D and is a fifth up from G.

This pattern can be slid down any fret on the E string, a string or d string and the name of the power chord is always the rootnote(5) The rootnote being the red one above moved along.
