A particular music style that I am playing at the moment is mostly inspired by 4 main bands: Opeth, Katatonia, Paradise Lost and Daylight Dies. I haven't uploaded anything yet but these are the main 4 that I am taking parts from into my own style.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend me any other bands that my fit in the same kind of styles as these. Although I think they are all very different from each other they all have something in common that I really like which is very often a moody sometimes dark atmosphere in their sounds.

Audiopaal: I have their latest album it's the only one I have. It's ok but not quite as awesome as I was expecting.

Canis: Cheers I'll look into some of them

VinceG: Thanks for the link, I've heard a lot of bands in that list although some I haven't like Candlemass

Well from the band description you gave, you are most likely looking for Death Doom and Gothic Doom bands (aside form Opeth) so I figure I'd just show the Doom page in last.fm. Candlemass is a more traditional Doom ala early Sabbath or so. Just keep looking at that page for bands to listen to. I'm sure you've only scratched the surface on the genre you are looking for.

The best band i can really recommend for what you're looking for is diSEMBOWELMENT, seeing as they were one of the first Death/Doom bands (which seems to be what you're looking for).

Also:
1000 Funerals
Ahab
Buried At Sea
(early) Cathedral
Centurions Ghost
Colosseum
Comatose Vigil
Consummatum Est
Depressed Mode
Dictator
Esoteric
Evoken
The Fall Of Every Season (HIGHLY recommended)
Fen (Atmospheric Black)
Forgotten Tomb (Depressive Black/Doom)
Funeral
Funeral Orchestra
Funeral Moth
Garden OF Gehenna
The Gates Of Slumber
Hanging Gardens
Hierophant
Imago Mortis
Keen Of The Crow
Monolithe
Mourning Beloveth (Highly Recommended)
Mournful Congregation
My Shameful
Negura Bunget (they're actually black metal, but strong atmosphere none the less)
Night Must Fall
Nortt (Doom/Black)
Nosphares
October Tide (Katatonia side project)
Ras Algethi
Runemagick (HIGHLY recommended)
Sempiternal Deathreign (HIGHLY Recommended)
Skepticism
Skumring
Swallow The Sun
Terhen
Thergothon (HIGHLY recommended)
Thorr's Hammer
Tyranny
Winter
Worship (HIGHLY recommended)
Wormphlegm

haha, i might of went a little overboard with my list, but good luck in your hunt btw

I'm think at the moment but the first bands that come to mind (that havent been said) are...
Novembers Doom
Estatic Fear (you may like this I don't think it fits with that style much but its awesome music)
Maybe something like Virgin Black or Draconian

I'll keep thinking...I should know a lot more of these

Thanks for all your replies people I of course won't be able to listen to all of them for a while but keep them coming anyway. Also as for those of you who have said about wanting death/doom bands, that may be correct but is not the only style I want to be looking for. I agree that some of those bands do influence this particular music style I want to play (Paradise Lost, Daylight Dies), I have found some black metal bands that might be of influence.

Thanks, I know Emperor they're pretty good and I keep meaning to check out Ihsahn's solo stuff. By the way you ever heard of a band called Sterbend? I discovered them last night a bit weird not really much to look forward to lyrically lol but the overall atmosphere is quite freaky: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrSH6oSx0oc
