PLEASE HELP WITH THIS ONE.
The best way I can describe the problem is going from walking to running.
If you look at speed picking as running and decent picking as walking. Then, you can only walk so fast before you have change the type of step you are taking or running is impossible. My picking is the same way I can pick faster now than ever, but I appear to have hit a road block that keeps me from going any faster. Just like speed walking. But it seems I can jump higher in speed and do pretty good. It is just like watching someone walk as fast as the can and they jump to a slightly different type of step in order to achieve running.
I would like to see a video lesson about how to accelerate.
I would just like to see one of you do it, I know you can.
Like play a 2 or 3 string pattern over and over from very slow to as fast as you can and back again to very slow. Trying to cover many tempos as you go.
All tips are welcome
Thanks

I know what the original poster means....

... the best way I can describe it is in where the motion comes from:

"jogging" for me is picking with movement in the wrist
'running" is picking with a locked wrist

once I could do the movement with the wrist locked - and under control - my speed really took off...

Yes locking it is the typical shred way of doing it. Now if you have som extra practice years and want god-like speedpicking tone you can learn how to do it with the wrist - like Eric Johnson, very few guitarist today can pull that off however...! smile.gif
