I have a set of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros.
I'm on my second set of them as well. My first pair didn't stand a chance. The dog chewed the cable pretty good!  I actually fixed them myself from that state, but when you roll your chair on the cord and stand up and rip everything out (not good at fixing wiring stuff personally). It was time to get a new pair and I got the same thing again I just loved how they sounded. I actually quit playing video games on a home theater and used the headphones because to me they sounded better overall.http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-770-PRO...s/dp/B0016MNAAI I actually had to wait over a month on back-order for my second set of Beyers due to not only the store being sold out but the company as well. But the Audio Technica ATH M50 are another highly used set of headphones. I've never seen a bad review for them what so ever. I just know how my Beyers sounded so I stuck with them. These are pretty good ($97) ...
Sony MDR-7506 And when the padding wears out, you can get replacements ($9)... Which is something I have to do soon. I've had mine for about three years... Replacement Pads |

I also have the Beyerdynamics, you'll find they are well recommended. Great for tracking and at a push (last resort) pretty good for mixing if you have to use headphones (which we all know is frowned upon). These phones sound promising and I really like the appeal of them.  Think I should go for it?

With something like headphones it's CRUCIAL to try before you buy if at all possible. Or make sure you can return them. You just don't know until you hear them. No matter what folks say good or bad about a pair of phones, it will come down to your ears at some point.
The cans you mentioned are a fine pair For a bit cheaper you can get a pair of AKG MKII 240 headphones which I personally adore, but headphones are like guitars, people like different ones for different reasons. These list for $260 and most places charge around $175 or so, but you can get them on AMAZON.com for $126!!!! http://www.amazon.com/AKG-K240MKII-STUDIO-...M/dp/B0016MNBAM Here is the info page @ AKG.
