Recommended Anti Malware / Spyware Software Options

A few days ago I noticed that I was having issues (whats new eh ) browsing websites. Some websites would load fine, but most wouldn’t.

I soon realised I had some nastys lurking on my PC, the Trojan.Vundo trojan to be precise. By nature it downloads heaps more malware / trojans too and so my PC was soon riddled! Worst of all I coulnt get into the GMC forum, myspace or facebook because of it

I tried using the freeware Spybot search and destroy, Adware, and my own licensed copy of NoAdware. To cut a long story short they only removed some of the malware - but not the main offender!

I thought all was lost and I would have to re-install windows, something I didn’t want to do on my new PC because id spent weeks getting it configured

By chance I was looking through a tech forum and they recommended "Malwarebytes Ant-Malware". After all else failed, this did a thorough job of cleaning up my system!

If any of you lovely GMC'ers are unfortunate enough to have problems with Spyware / Malware in the future give it a try! (p.s. No I dont work for them ) Its free to use, but if you want to register you get further protection so highly recommended

Well video encoding IS a good reason to have a powerful PC It would take ages if not... Plus codecs are getting more and more complex (think of H.264 for example) and you need the extra power. And all those heavy programs, they need that
But one thing I didn't realize for a long time is that PCs don't actually consume that much... I attached mine to a rudimental ampere meter, and I got 0.4-0.5, which is 85-110 watts, while my power supply is 300watts ! I thought it consumed much more! Try it on yours

I think firewall is much more important than anti-virus. You actually need to click on the file to get the virus, but ANY program you are running could have a remote vulnerabilty and someone could exploit this to infect you, without you knowing... I don't need it because I'm behind a NAT, no public address but all others should give it a try.
