Hi all,

I'm glad to be here. Not only do the lessons look very good but the forums are friendly and lots of people reply to your posts!

I started playing guitar way back in the 60's - alright it was near the end of the 60's but still that era!

I played in a few bands when I was in my teens and I got quite good. Then I went to University, got a job, got a wife etc. I didn't really play for the last 20 years.

Now I've bumped into an old friend from my teens and we have a small guitar band. I'm loving it.

I'm not really into shredding but more into blues and melody.

I wish sites like this had been around in my day.

Good to meet you all.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Glad to meet you! Don't worry we're not all shredders on this site, although I am finding that learning shred techniques is improving my overall playing so its well worth looking at that stuff even if you don't want to play like that - I'm pretty much where you are at - melodic blues, kind of Gilmour/Gary Moor stuff is my sweet spot - so enjoy the site!

Mike,

I know exactly what you mean when you said, I wish we had this in my day. I too started playing back in the early 60s. I was 8 and guitar was all I could think about. I love the line from a Pink Floyd song "you bought a guitar to punish your mom". In the begining I'm sure that was the case.

I can still hit a few and the scales have really helped to limber me up. But I'll keep plugging away
and with patience, persistence and practice I'm determined to impress myself someday.

Glad your here.

Hi Mike and welcome aboard! Just a tip for getting the most out of GMC....check out EVERY genre of lesson, not just the ones you consider to be in your style. Like Andrew was saying...everything you learn will improve your playing in some way. A blues player that can shred has way more tools available than a blues player that just plays the blues (nothing wrong with that though.) biggrin.gif

I like yourself have played for sometime but never the caliber I wanted. I'm going to keep workin it, maybe by the time I am fifty I'll be closer. This site is amazing though. Much better than other things I've tried. There is hope.

Happy picking,
Mindy (Melinda)
