Alright, so I have a bridge humbucker, middle singlecoil and a neck humbucker. I thought about a dimarzio tonezone or whatever it's called for bridge, but I don't know what I should use for middle and neck. I love to play clean, gilmourstyle, by example. I also love deep gorgeous shreds, but I dunno what neckpickup would fit that style the best.

tips please, experienced players!

The neck pickup on the Jem is its best attribute - a DiMarzio Evolution. It has a lot of definition and sparkle, but also a lot of depth to it. Great for blues, heavy shred, and sparlking glean sounds.

The hard part is that you never know for sure until after it's done laugh.gif

I'm guessing PAF in neck and Chopper or AirNorton in mid. That would be one hot guitar. Or for a real H-S-H just leave the current single coil sitting.

I use a Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion humbucker at bridge.I have a H-S-S figuration on my guitar.Wish i had your H-S-H setup.I play mostly heavy distortion sounds but have to have a good clean sound at the same time.If i was going to set a guitar up like you have i would use the SH-6 at bridge=STK S2 hot stack single coil at middle and=SH-2 Jazz model at neck.Not a Jazz player but this setup is perfect for just about every playing style out there and the neck humbucker would produce great clear clean sounds.All Seymour Duncan for me ofcourse.Check out there website at www.seymourduncan.com to get a detailed idea of what all this pickups can offer you.

Depends of guitar/wood.
But as guys said above,must try it first,than you'll see the result.

I guess he was implying that you should take the singlecoil out, and without the singlecoil, you won't have the HSH configuration!

HSH = Humbucker, Singlecoil, Humbucker.

I too recommend trying out the pickups before you invest. Don't go solely on advice!

Try bareknuckle pickups (expensive, but amazing).

I meant that both the pu's I mentioned are (if I'm not wrong) hum canceling singel coils, i.e coils winded in pairs infact giving a humbucker pickup but in a single coil format.

How does that sound?

Uhm, I didn't know what a Steve's special was but from the looks of it it's a bridge pu. It's output is higher than what you choose to put in the bridge so I'm not so sure about that match. It's unconventional.

Maybe;

Tonezone Chopper PAFPro
or
Steve's Chopper PAFPro

would work.

hmm, not sure how fond I am of the pafpro. I want a neckbucker that really emphasizes shreds and cleans. this doesn't seem to. please disagree, I want to finish my setup biggrin.gif

and btw, to make this cooperate, bridge: hi output, middle: medium? neck: low output?

is that how it's supposed to be? I have only been playing for about 2.5 years, never thought about changing my pickups before smile.gif

Re-edit: I like air norton and vai's "breed" for neck too. any ideas on that? would any of them fit?

No worries at all.
Just tell him what guitar do you have,what sort of tone do you prefer,like this or that etc.
Stan will offer you few solutions for sure.
They you can try one,and if you're not satisfied go for another.
Just tell him I sent you wink.gif

If you have enough cash to throw around...you might want to check out "www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk" They can help you out with what you want in a pickup. I bought a set of Black Dogs and it nails what I'm after, a Jimmy Pagish tone, but has also got some great cleans and if I wanted to, add a load of gain to get some metal chops out...they aren't cheap, but they're the best pickups IMO.

http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/...opic.php?t=9137 if you want to hear a sound clip I made Stairway to Heaven style...
