On my theory and harmony board you will find a post regarding diatonic function and chords. I don't know if you checked it out or not but it has been there for quite a while

Nice explanation but I prefer thinking of all this in a modal way. The terms he uses are more classical music terms even though it's all correct and it's the same thing. When going from C to F I think of Lydian rather than sub-dominant but anyway thanks for sharing
