Hi All !! I am so glad i found this site. It has revived my passion for playing the guitar. I used to be in a local metal band as a vocalist/rhythm guitarist some 6 years back (played for 2 odd years). Playing downstrokes riffs with a million mistakes was/is my speciality And have never played a solo in my life.
I quit playing then but now after 6 yrs i have picked it up again, only after finding this fantastic site. My focus will be learning to alternate pick, speedpick and play those fast solos (i wish:)) and of course rectify all the bad habbits. It has been 15-20 days on this site and i practise about an hour everyday and 4-5 hours on weekends (sat and sun each). Am primarily going through Kris's 101 lessons and some by Muris (at slow tempo of course:)). Pavel's shred lessons are totally out of my reach at my current skill level and very scary for a beginner to be honest , lol ...but i will get there one day. The only scale i know is the 5 boxes of the Em pentatonic. You will find my desperate attempt to play those runs in one of the files attached My alt picking is improving slowly i think but i still make a loads of mistakes. OH and i am strictly staying away from "Riffs". I LOVE playing riffs but i do get carried away and wasting time and not improving. So only scales and solos and techniques for me . Thanks (atleast in the first 6 months). Hope i stay motivated !! I dont have a fancy axe. Just a local made guitar, dnt even know the brand. 2 out of 3 pickups dont work properly but it doesnt deter me . If i am consistent and see any improvements, i will save up some money and get a good one in a few months. I do sometimes record my random session to track mistakes and try to fix em as i cannot hear them while playing (single track mind )) Here is some stuff. one is the mixolydian solo- muris's lesson (only one i could find at my level) other is random alternate pickin - kris's pattern from 101. i know there are a lot of mistakes (thats the whle purpose of uploading it here ) but i would appreciate all criticism and help i can get. Respect to all the Instructors and fellow Guitarists !!! \m/ Kris - Thanks for putting up a Brilliant site.
