Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Blues Rhythm Basics by Gabriel Leopardi

Started from 65bpm and gradually increased it. I hope the timing is much better on this one.

Hi Ari!

Great to see you doing this lesson. Overall, you manage the rhythm very well and you also keep a good timing (except for a few tiny slips).

The tip that you received from Kris, about beating the rhythm with your foot was awesome and it improved your playing. Besides the fact that it forces you to keep the timing, from the viewer's perspective, it gives a more relaxing feel.

The only essential issue that I see in your take, is the fact that we can't hear all the notes clearly. When you play with your ring finger, we hear the F# note (D string) only when you play the lick in an ascending way. But even then, it is not correct to glue this note with the next one.
For this type of rhythm, we don't need to have a legato sound, we need a clear separation between notes.
Also, after you play with the pinky finger and return to F#, we do not hear that note anymore. This happens because you don't take away your ring finger from the string, which is highly important to do in this lesson.
Take a close look at how Gab plays this rhythm and you will understand what you do wrong.

As additional advice, try when you practice a lesson to also try to match a much closer type of tone to the instructor. From my point of view, your take would have shined more if you had used a less harsh tone.

I really enjoyed your take. You get an 8 from me.

Keep up your awesome work!

YEAH!! This is a whole new level of ROCK for sure. Well done keeping the pulse throughout!

Monica is spot on with the details -

I would like to add that you will get better attack /note separation / articulation here if you learn to hit the notes a tad harder with your right hand. It's not so much a strength thing but rather learn to swing the hand with a bit more velocity while still keeping it as relaxed as possible.

It is a bit of a pro tip, but it makes a major difference in tone & rhythm.

Great to see you tacking new challenges!
