OKay.. I tried a lot of times but still doesn't sound so clean.. Should I try a clean tone take?

It was quite descent, good work!!

A clean take (or one with less distortion) would be great tho. smile.gif

Even better,
I noticed only one missed note (over F7 chord),
you passed this as far as I'm concerned,
I'll give you next assignment asap. smile.gif

How is Fusion Jam going btw?
Don't forget, we need it for REC. smile.gif

Yep.. thats what happens at fast speed.. biggrin.gif Is it on time? Its pretty hard to do that on timing as the notes on the beat are not 'root' note or something that can be easily played. you know..

I haven't practiced fusion jam honestly.. I have been doing this for the whole week and I am glad I reached 120bpm. smile.gif

will practice for sure.

Thanks Muris. I hope you are having a good weekend. Cheers!! wink.gif

Btw, I just did a impro in CLydian Collab by David. This one is the fastest one I came up with.. an hour or so.. Otherwise, it takes me like a full day. I am not sure if its appropriate here but I wanted to share and get your feedback. I would love to get some fast riffs and as you can see I get stuck at the same melody or timing thing.. Would love to get some other variations in the same song. ya know.. smile.gif

Timing was pretty fine imo, yeah. smile.gif
I'll give you something easier for last week so that you could focus more
on REC assignment, Fusion Jam.

I'm gonna listen your colab take tho. smile.gif

Ok, I just listened and here's what I would think of in future, timing phrasing.
If you analyze your take timing wise you'll notice that each phrase
start on the beginning of each bar, first beat.
Cool idea is not to start from there every time, you can start from 2nd 4th or 8th
OR you can start your phrase with pre-beat by starting on, example, 4th beat in previous bar. smile.gif

I noticed today that the back of my arm (triceps but near the shoulder joint) muscle is aching. Looks like its due to fast pick movement in recent days. smile.gif I am learning to pick faster.

Not a problem at all. Take your time and rest. smile.gif

One questions, I am not sure if I asked before, how do we really hold the pick? I think I 'discovered' what my problem is. I have been looking into other videos about speed tips. And there are lots of tips. One of them was controlled motions of both left and right hand, efficiency and what not. So, looks like I am holding the pick too hard, stopping me to move my right hand in a free way and also aching my arm. But I tried losening it a bit and play. The pick tends to slide off my fingers and also in string skips, I tend to miss some notes. I also tried angled pick position for faster picks. I am all confused to what is the best method.. which I still yet to discover. What am I doing wrong here?

It would be quite hard to tell what the best method is,
people hold pick in many ways after all.
But I guess it might have something to do with pick gauge as well,
you need to find out what gauge works the best for you.
In my case, I like heavier gauges, 1.5- 2mm most of the time,
that gives me the option to hold it very gentle while still having enough attack.
As for angle, I probably keep zero angle as much as possible
but this is also a matter of personal preference imo, there is no "right" way.
More research is what you need I guess. smile.gif

Okay.. I have been playing around. It has improved from where I was before joining GMC but still need to experiment to find the best way.

I use Jazz III picks.. so must be around 2mm.. I used to use very thin 0.85mm 1mm picks but this feels much more comfortable.

You need more time to find a perfect match, it's a long walk!

Btw, here's our last weekly assignment for October,
a Legato exercise but focus is actually on timing,
you have kind a 7 notes groups with straight 16ths
which means that accent (1st note in a group) change its place all the time.
I made it in 2 versions tho, ascending and descending, descending one is pretty much like mirrored ascending.
Tempo is 130 but it aint the must, just watch for timing and do your best. smile.gif

I was referring to pick gauge but even THAT is solved with more practice,
eventually you'll feel comfortable with different gauges
as your skills get better. smile.gif

Hey Muris, you can't believe this... at least I am not being able to.. I just had breakthrough on synchronization and picking. I have been looking for tonnes of resources videos on youtube and paul gilbert video posted on the other forum this morning (which I had looked before too but never tried properly or at least it took time to figure out). So, combining and been practicing for last 2-3 days and when I tried the Paul Gilberty picking today (angled) for speed.. it seems to be much better and easier ..

and if you remember I complained about my right arm aching? Its still aching but its sweet.. I have now more power to control my picking. OH MAN!! I am on that route now and picky pretty fast. I can play your AP lesson from last week pretty easily. String skipping also seems comfortable now. I was having problem with right hand before but it seems more easy and less strain.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. THIS MTP HAS BEEN REALLY GREAT AND HELPFUL!! I have achieved in this 2 months which I hadn't for last 15 years. I am so happy. smile.gif I have been diverted this week but its really helping my playing. smile.gif Another month of AP and I am ready for sweeping or tapping. biggrin.gif We do have this MTP till November right?
