Ghost Note, What's the purpose? |
Are they there mainly to add a note if wanted?

They are a liitle more than "felt not heard" - they are typically fast quiet notes in front of other notes - a kind of ornamentation.

Thanks Andrew. So what your saying is not to pick them out as hard, just a subtle touch? Also is there situations where they could be tied to the previous note?

THese notes can be tied or played with a slide/hammer on/pull off for example. When doing a ghost note it doesn't necessarily needs to be quieter from the other notes, it just needs to be played fast and not affect the overall rhythm and note values balance in a bar.

Yeah, they can actually be silent but not always, usually just a lot quieter - sometimes they can be used as placeholders instead of a rest.
