Hi Gab,

Here are my answers:

- I have played guitar since I was 16 years old (1989). I have been in a few bands but none of them have come as far as to play actual gigs.

- Me discovering heavy metal music was the reason that I started playing. Bands like Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, GN’R, Motley Crue has always been a great source of inspiration. But over the years I have started to appreciate a lot of different rock music. Favourite guitarists: Joe Satriani, Slash, Glenn Tipton, Gary Moore.

- My goals are to be able to perform with other musicians feeling comfortable with my guitar playing, knowing that I can improvise and adapt to the piece being played. To be able to take on a solo without getting lost when I don’t manage to play it exactly as it sounds on the record. To be able to express on the guitar what I hear in my head. I have no rock star dreams (too late for that smile.gif) but the satisfaction of becoming better and being able to play what I want is a goal as such. My ambition is to join or create a band that plays mostly because it’s fun but also does a few gigs at parties or bars. Even though getting better technically is fun, I have realised that the most important thing is to sound good. Therefore, one of my goals is to expand my playing skills to improve the understanding of the context I am playing in. But to summarise, my overall goal with my playing is to enjoy music, have fun and the satisfaction it gives.

- In five years I want to have a band and play with confidence at my own 50 year birthday bash. Musically I hope to have reached my goals and feel that I have progressed significantly in my playing.

- During the weekdays I am happy if I get 30 minutes every other day. Weekends maybe twice a day times 20-30 minutes. My ambition is 30 minutes a day. Once in a while, maybe every other week, I get to play 1-2 hours . I think I could squeeze in some more playing time if I feel that I have clear goal and practice routine, but life is busy with job and family.

- No, not any live experience to talk about. I have played acoustic a song or two on birthdays and weddings but that’s it. However I have been in a few bands but never come past the rehearsal stage.

- Strong points: I think I am a fast learner, and I am pretty good at using all four fingers on the fretting hand. Weak points: I don’t take the time to practice at a slow speed using a metronome. Paying attention to accuracy and cleanliness is something I need to improve. The thing is, I need to convince myself that practicing slowly will lead to better playing at faster speed.

- I have learnt quite some about music theory the recent 5 years. Especially modes. I am currently working on how to apply chord harmonies, how to substitute chords in a progression and what that does to the key etc. I have a bit left on the application side. I am convinced that learning music theory will make me a better guitar player.

- I only record both sound and image with my telephone. However, I have a DAW software and, interface between computer and amp etc, and I would like to learn more on how to make good videos and recording, synchronising picture and sound.

I can send you videos once I have recorded.

Best
Ybritt

Hi mate! Thanks for all your information. It's great to receive this deep details about your experience, goals and music taste. I think that I can help you to get the most of your practice time to reach your goals as a guitarist.

It would be great to see some videos from you. Using Daw and Video Software editor can be very helpful for your work here at the site. However, in order to make things smoother, you can share some videos recorded with your celphone, trying to make them sound the best possible.

What do you think?
