Okay guys.. i was on a tear once i heard about Ibanez's 8 string guitars and i was thinking.. maybe i could make my own 8 string. Using premade peices of course. althought i don't neeed another guitar ive always wanted to start making my own so this is my project. Ive scounged up $1000 but am willing to go over a bit. I sorta want this.. King V body.. i have no idea for pickups.. but i was feeling 3 humbuckers therefore i want a 5 way switch.. then a very beefy neck and 8 strings so ill have to custom the body a bit to accomidate.. Any ideas guys.. this is just my general idea.. i will settle for less I'm not sure there even exist a 8 string guitar-kit or parts to buy. Another way is to build it from scratch. You still have to come up with suitable pu's, nut and a bridge.
And a word of advice. It's not "the more the better" but a quality guitar could come off of concentrating on what's really needed, keeping it simple. There's been a lots of talk about tone lately and to keep that subject going I have to comment on these guitars that comes loaded with pu's (the more the better huh?). A pu should be placed beneath a string in a harmonic position. That works excellent for the bridge pu, plenty of room there. But another natural harmonic position is exactly where fret 24 is places along the scale. Concidering that a 24 fret neck has already lost that chanse. Then 3 humbuckers between the nut and the bridge, where you'd wante plenty of wood and instead get cavity would/could also be bad for the tone. -------------------- My bands homepage
