Just checked Georgia Power and about ONE MILLION people in Georgia are without power. sad.gif They say it may take several days or even weeks to get everyone back on. I'm using my cell phone as a hot spot and using my laptops to post. My first laptop is dead now and the second one is dying quick. Once my batteries are dead, I have no way to charge them. So if I'm not on GMC for a bit, I'm truly sorry sad.gif I'll be back on as soon as I can. I hope my cell phone batt and backup batt lasts as it's my only way to reach folks on email/chat etc.

You don't realize how important electricity is until it goes out and stays out sad.gif

See you soon!

Todd

I get powerouts 3-4 times where I live every year, usually takes max 3 hours. About 2 years ago power was out in the entine country and took 24 hours to come back! was so boring biggrin.gif

I can't imagine days or even weeks without power sad.gif trying hanging with friends and also consider an acoustic guitar biggrin.gif

Egad! The whole country? Ouch! Most of Florida is still without power, we got it back this morning and it's flickering. It's a bit spotty going off and on. Hope it stays mostly on smile.gif They are working on it.

I gotta say, being without power is pretty lame. You don't realize how dependent you've become on something til it's gone for a bit. Used my cell phone as host spot for the laptop and then all the backup batts finally ran out. That was the worst. Just dead quiet and pitch black. I had only one night of this, some folks in florida jammed in shelters had it for about a week. I gotta say that sounds horrible.

I don't care where you live. Everyone should have some form of backup power generation. Preferably one that is hardwired into your home and is set to automatically start and switch off of the main power grid in the event of a power outage. It is a wise investment.

Being without power sucks indeed. Being without water sucks too. Thank God for technology smile.gif smile.gif

I can't even imagine being without water. I've never had to suffer that. I've always got wads of bottled water around as I hate the taste of our local tap water. I don't know what they put in it, but it's not fund to drink it. As far as power, yeah, it's freaking awful. I had a few battery backups for my phone which I was using as a wifi hot spot so I could get online and using my laptop as it's got it's own battery. So I spent a few hours online last night despite the power being out.

This house is rented so we can't install bits like generators in to the house power, according to the lease. We could buy a gas gen and just sit it outside I guess. We don't usually lose power for that long. My UPS devices are usually enough to carry me through any outage. But yeah, not when the outage is 12 hours long. Luckily, netflix still worked on my iphone so there was some entertainment smile.gif Without that I'd have gone a bit nuts. Can't stand just dead quiet for some reason.

Keep in mind not only you're not getting power but when avalible its not to be trusted. I mean a fuse may not go out but a tube amp or electronic device may get damaged (not only high but lower voltages than standard is also not good) so until things get stabilized don't keep electronics open when not using (like, don't use standby just shut the tv, computer etc. when you're done)

That's sage advice. I burned up my Canon HD cam that I use for making vids. Power fluctuated a few times before I could get to the kill switch and it just cooked the camera. I'll be looking for a replacement. Thankfully most of my other gear was already off. sad.gif
