Hi Monica,

As promised... here's the recording I made from my barre chord lesson from Bear. I did not use a backing track and the recording is not made trough a DAW. Just used my iPhone. But I guess it can give you enough info on where I stand at this point regarding to barre chords.

Cheers,

Gert

Hi Gert!

Awesome to see your video. You had a great idea to make the recording without the backing track. In this way we can spot the weak points.

You know, after we talked yesterday about this lesson, I expected to see something that will sound really bad. biggrin.gif
But you are going in a very good direction. I like the fact that you get used to keep the index finger near the fret and this gives us the clarity of the notes with less pressure. That was the most important thing.

What you need now, is to get used to keep a good position when you change the chords. That's why we have some issues at the first strum of each chord. Once you start to play more times the same chord, you already fix the position. This thing assure me that you have learned the technique and practice will make things shine.
That's why my strategy is to make you see the details behind the notes. This is the only way to master the techniques in a good way. The melodies from the lessons will be forgotten at some point, but the techniques will stay with you forever.

Few weeks of practice and you will master the barre chords. smile.gif
Don't forget when you practice and switch the position, first time pick each string to be sure that you can hear clear all the notes from the chords. In this way you will train yourself to move your hand in a perfect position.

Congrats on your first approach on barre chords. You are awesome! smile.gif

Keep up your great work!

A very cold good morning!

I made this recording of my barre chord practise to demonstrate how far I am at this point.

Still need more practise but I think I made some progress...

Cheers,

Gert

Hi Gert!

This take also goes in a good direction. I can see a lot of improvements.

1. We have a much smoother switch between chords. That is awesome!

2. You have already started getting used to the position and we don't have that issue anymore at the first strum of each chord.

Now, for the next time, I would like you to add an additional focus on your right hand.

Review the strumming from the rhythmical point of view because here we have issues. Listen to the lesson very carefully and how the instructor plays the rhythm. This is the main thing that needs to be fixed.

Also, try to add a little more force to your right hand. Play with more intention. Don't be so gentle, think that you are on stage and you need to play with confidence (rock the things biggrin.gif).
We need to hear very clearly the notes when you make the up movement. If you look at the instructor you will notice that he puts accents on the up strums.

I'm satisfied with how the barre chords started to sound. A few corrections on rhythm and accents and things will start to shine. smile.gif

Keep up your awesome work!

Thanks again Monica for your feedback!

I was aware of the strumming part as I only focused on the barre chords an didn't pay attention to the strumming part. But now the barre chords are getting better I can start with the strumming part.

And the next take I will make sure I will ROCK on the strings laugh.gif

Good evening Monica,

Here's another take. I'm not satified yet about the strumming part. So still need some more practise before putting it into REC.

Await your great feedback as always wink.gif

Hi Gert!

Definitely, this take sounds better than the last one. You are going in a good direction. smile.gif
Of course, I agree with you that the strumming needs a little more work. Probably 1-2 weeks of practice to have everything polished in a good way.

I like the fact that now we can hear the notes better when you make the upward movements. You played with more intention and this is a very good thing.

Be careful because you have some timing issues. This mostly appears when you make upward movements. Try to control the accents a little better.
You have moments in the take where the accents sound too loud and the right hand looks like it struggles too much to manage them.
Try to play them like you did at 0:31 - 0:34. That's the perfect force added to your hand. We have the accents visible but your hand still keeps a smooth movement.

Keep up your awesome work! smile.gif
