Strap Locks

My fiance got me a new leather guitar strap for xmas, and I went to put on my strap locks. However, they do not fit through the holes at all. I have just basic Jim Dunlop strap locks. Do they make smaller ones that fit through the holes of fat leather straps? Or am I going to need to cut the leather out a tiny bit?
