Holy Crap!, Can you speedpick... Options

Have seen this before, and we had a long discussion on Petrucciforum about whether it was fake or not. It turned out some of it was fake. I'll see if I can find the conclusion:

As the Yngtchster said, i did actually debunk this last week, but got caught up in so many other things before posting my findings, hehe.


I've said ever since he (Tiago Della Vega) emerged on the net, that he fingers waaay more notes than he actually picks..... in fact he barely even 'fingers' notes, but more like just slides about them.



Just watch this clip of the 320bpm section that i've slowed to quarter speed :

Watch it a few times, forcussing on his picking hand, then his fingering hand. Watching it at this speed it becomes pretty obvious his pick strokes are way slower than his fingered notes. (On top of that, his fretting hand positions/direction doesn't even appear to match up to the audio)

I can tell you that as far as audio is concerned, there are 20 notes that ring out in that 1 second clip. However, watch the clip with the sound turned off, and you'll see that he only just makes 15 pick strokes in the same time frame. So yes, he only manages 15 pick strokes for every 20 notes that ring out. In other words, he is only actually picking 3/4 of the notes that he claims to be doing, in a (supposedly) 'Alternate Picking' World Record.

So, after all the fancy build up, internet videos, and stage show he put on for the "world record" attempt, he is only actually picking at barely 15 nps.



Make your own mind up (if you haven't already).

Heh, just got the slowed-down video from Willjay, that puts this whole thing to rest. He cut one second out of the 320 BPM vid, and slowed it down to quarter speed. Listening to it, you'll hear 20 notes, but if you turn the sound off and watch his picking hand... HE ONLY PICKS 15 TIMES.

So that's 20 notes, but only 15 pick strokes.

And of course, the notes you hear don't match with the fretting hand positions.
