Really impressed how calm he dealt with it. I think I would have died inside at least 10 times if that had happened to me.

Through the years, Kirk definitely learned how to manage these kinds of situations. It wasn't the first time he had a bad day....but at least he is a funny guy and still looks good. biggrin.gif
Listening to the entire song from that night....it wasn't their best performance. Kirk's guitar was a little out of tune (at 1:09 it's too audible), James' voice had some issues and also that bend played by James (5:51)....damn it really scratched my ears. biggrin.gif We all have bad days.....no one is perfect.

Anyway, what I love is the fact that, after the pandemic period (when all the concerts were canceled), people now started to finally enjoy the music more, the atmosphere of concerts and not to care so much about the human mistakes made by their idols. Once again, it has proved that some people appreciate things only after they lose them. That was a good reset. I personally was tired of hearing people complaining about everything.

Yeah agreed lots of 'mistakes' but the feeling is still there.. I am seriously thinking I need go see Metallica live at least one time before it's too late.

It's probably the most important band for me since growing and perhaps the one I listened most to - still I have never seen them live..

I also intend to see Metallica live. Same as you, I also love this band and I grew up listening to their music. They were in my town in 2019 but when I found out about the concert, the tickets were already sold out. Hope next time I will have more luck.

(Hey, multiquotes working for me now! They haven't in the past!)

I find these things really tricky. I'm admittedly not big on Metallica, but I have the same feeling from say Dream Theater and Psychotic WAltz. I'd love to see them again (I just missed Dream Theater in May, but the setlist was quite poor IMO) but especially their singers have nose-dived a bit. That happens with age, so it's understandable. The thought of seeing them a few more times is tempting of course, but it also reminds me of what I saw my (substitute) grandma a few times before she passed away. She had taken care of me a lot from when I was about 2 to 14 or so. Then I didn't see her much the following years as she had gotten sick and moved to a town 2-3 hours away. Eventually when I was 20 or so I saw her a couple of times, but she was not the person I had known before. Dementia had set in, health struggles and so on. It's natural and it happens with age, but it took a while before I could erase that picture from my memory and remember her for all the good times we had. I kinda get the same vibe with Labrie (singer, Dream Theater) and I'd almost rather watch some of their old live shows on YouTube etc. even though I obviously didn't know about them or listen to them in the early/mid 90's.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I'd still encourage people to go see their favorite artists of course, even if they've aged (badly). Just sharing some train of thoughts.

Same smile.gif He's a pro and handled it well imho. It would be hard not to have a panic attack with something like that.

I guess it's bound to happen at some point. Surprised about the tuning issue though.

I saw Metallica in 1989 in my hometown during the Damaged Justice tour. It was a killer show. Queensryche opened for them for their Operation: Mindcrime album which I also loved. Memories. smile.gif

I saw them in the early 90's during the black album tour. Great show! They played for 3 hours and I was tired just from watching them. They put out a ton of energy and I remember thinking that the concert was the best value for the buck of any other concert I had seen. I think the show actually went on for 4 hours because they had to stop for about an hour while they cleared the upper levels until they could get the smoke out of the hall from a fire that was caused by pyrotechnics. Some speakers hanging from the ceiling caught fire and before they stopped the show you could see the flames being fed by the air being moved by the bass frequencies, mainly the kick drum.

Very cool, that must have been the best years to see them live. James had found his low voice and they still had the energy of the early days.
