sweep picking

Hi, when sweep picking i want to mute the noise the strings after they are played. I have hear that you mute with you thumb? i also hear that you must not put your left hand figers over the top of the fretboard. Is this ture? Anyway how to mute the string noise.

After you play a note you have to take your finger off the string as ur playing the second note and so on. You half to try to have only one note ringing at a time.

I would also try to watch some sweep picking videos at youtube, yo get how to do it.
