OK, just thought I´d post this youtube link. It´s not the average shredder but legendary country/jazz guitarist Danny Gatton, aka the Telemaster. It´s not everyday you see someone speedpick, sweep and tap(!) on a clean sounding Fender Telecaster.

I love the cool way he tuned his E string right in the middle of his solo  Oh and I think the tapping you were talking about might have been some artificial harmonics, or maybe a mixture - I'm talking about the section around the 4 min mark. Awesome
