I've noticed that nearly every used ibanez I click on from ebay is coming from japan. This guy has taken over most of the market. As such he sets the prices and charges over a hundred bucks for shipping. It seems he is driver some folks to reverb to sell their ibbys. Sadly reverb prices are a bit higher than ebay used to be. This is the guys store. Be careful when bidding on these. He is half way around the world and shipping is not cheap.

Has anyone bought from this guy? He has nearly 10 thousand guitars in his shop.

Sadly he is personally driving up the prices of used ibbys. sad.gif That's my beef with him. Used to be able to get good prices on ebay for used ibbys. Not anymore. This guy sorta wrecked. It's nice that he has some good reviews. Too bad the prices are inflated and shipping is $150 sad.gif

Single handedly driving up prices around the globe for used Ibanez guitars? That's not likely, is it? The market changes over time and as those instruments become more rare, and demand for them goes up, naturally the value goes up. If he is charging too much then people won't buy them. So your vintage Ibbys are worth more now too. That's good old capitalism for you. Maybe you can haggle with him?

Not around the globe so much as just on ebay as I said. True ebay is global, but other services dominate in other areas of the world. As for the ebay, yeah, he's driving up the prices. sad.gif I've been buying used ibbys for a long time and saw gradual increases in price which is to be expected. That's not what I'm talking about. He's inflating the prices by controlling the supply. You are right thought, that's capitalism. Supply and demand. Nearly every used ibby you click on is coming from him. He's sorta cornered the market and now charges whatever he likes. Then he adds a hundred fifty bucks for shipping. it's made used ibbys in to being like old strats almost. Just overpriced.

Maybe he has seen all your posts here at GMC praising the golden age ibbys and thought to himself, hey, maybe I should be charging more! 😉

Sure, shipping might be high, but he's shipping from Japan. Shipping from Japan to Denmark for instance is usually set around that price, especially something as heavy as a guitar.

And if you want to avoid this guy you could choose "North America only" of course, which still brings up about 350 Ibanez guitars on Ebay.com smile.gif

I know wink.gif probably wouldn't buy from the guy. I buy from north america typically. I've just noticed a price increase beyond the normal bump happening due to this guys pricing and he seems to be a heayweight vendor. Just life I guess. Just complaining is all smile.gif

I've heard of some buy-sellers where I live which can be quite un-ethical as in buying too cheap and selling expensive. These guys always hunt on the lesser known websites and/or website that although focuses/popular on certain used products unrelated to guitar.

Of-course not your intention but to get you shoud adapt more to those tactics. The only downside is if you're looking for specific things the search will take longer.

My guess is because covid funding stuff and its effect on inflation, I don't expect prices going lower in USA. Politicans give messages as it might be over at the end of summer but I'm not optimistic about that either.

I haven't looked too much at used Ibbys but (as many of you know) I scour the secondhand market on-line and in physical shops and I've noticed a pretty big uptick in prices for everything. I figured that with Covid, prices would fall but not the case. Oddly, with some stuff, especially 'brand name' stuff - and Ibanez certainly falls into that category - a higher price actually entices some folks to buy.
I had a rare boutique tube amp for sale on Reverb for two years with barely a bite. I raised the price when Reverb jacked up their fees and boom, it sold.
*$207.00 Insured shipping across the country.

That Ibanez is a "brand name" brings up a funny story. I talked to a guy once who saw my Ibanez RG3570Z guitar and kept telling me that I had been scammed buying it for $750, that Ibanez was a cheap china brand and didn't make expensive guitars. I know they come in all price ranges of course, which I told him, but he didn't believe me smile.gif

There was someone on Reverb who bought all the equipment Dave Mustaine was selling. Then he started selling them more than twice the price he bought them.

So, with enough capital anyone can start buying for example all the used Ibanez RG in the used market, and then start selling them at higher than normal prices.

If I remember correctly, Bonamasa is a '59 Les Paul collector. I am pretty sure by now he has almost all of them. If he starts selling them, I am sure they will be waaay overpriced.

As unfair as it sounds, he did nothing wrong. He just happened to have way more money than the rest of us hehe

There were 543 Sunburst Les Pauls ('Bursts) shipped in 1959. Not so ironically, once they broke the $50K barier there were all of a sudden about 500 more that 'showed up' (fakes or '59 gold tops that were stripped and refin'd in sunburst). All in all, Gibson shipped about 4000 Les Paul type guitars in 1959. Juniors, Specials, Customs, etc. *The sunburst standards are the one's that go for the big money.
If Joe B. owns even 1/2 of the documented and accounted for 543 - I would be very impressed. That's a lot of fuckin' money ... even for a rich guy.

*I bought my first Ibanez in 1979 for $175.00 whsc and including the tax. An AS 2629 (335 copy).
I still have it. They go for around 2 grand currently.

The covid effect seems to be driving up prices as people have more time at home. Also, with some money one can soak up a big chunk of the market. Such is life smile.gif
