Very simplistically, and I may be wrong here, generally speaking different amp preamp stages do different things well. Three broad classifications would be:
1. Clean 2. Crunch 3. High Gain Most amps cover 2 out of the three since its a continum - the Fender I would say goes from Clean to Crunch. In additon, lead and rythym are voiced differently. Amps that do all 3 on one channel are very rare - but a lot of amps have 2 - 3 channels to cover this, giving you the best of all possible worlds. Another option would be to use a distortion pedal to get you into High Gain Territory, but remember I haven't played with tube amps much yet, although I have one on order, am manufacturing another, and also trying to save up for a 3rd -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

A nice smooth tone would be good. I just wasnt geting any warmth of tone out my roland. Now ive been playing a while i can see although they are good beginner amps they dont cut the mustard when your an enhusiast! The Fender you're peaking at I'm sure you'll be happy with. So you're a 6L6 kind of guy, I was first going to tell you since you're in the UK you have to get a Laney... guess not. I find the Bristish sound more appealing, warmer and more lively. Fender is cleaner, a polite sound with a punch, great for blues and rock. A Fender, your MD-2 and an Overdrive/Tubescreamer and you're set to rock -------------------- My bands homepage

well ive narrowed it down to the Fende blues JR, or im seriously considering the VOX AC15 cc. One british one american Would the Ac15 go well with OD pedals like the tube screamer? The AC15 would go well with an OD, sure. Hardtail has written quite a bit on the Blues Jr, check for first hand information there. I think the entire Vox line moved it's production to China, if that matters to you. To it's defense it's got a Celection Alnico Blue speaker, a classic speaker. And mind that both are single channel amps (I think the vox is too) with means you have to work a little harder with pedals like the OD and a distortion. Both run on EL84 power tubes (here again, at least I THINK the Fender does too) so it's not really one bristish and one american soundwise. It's bluesy amps, simple as that. -------------------- My bands homepage
