Just a couple of thoughts on the pc freezes/lock ups Rob.
Did you try to freeze unused track lanes to reduce processor drain? If you did the above, and if you have a spare pc maybe consider running some of your vsts on a stand alone pc and linking it to the daw via ethernet. There used to a couple of programs about that would let you do this. l think one was called FX Teleport. I have same problem with most demanding projects - a sure sign that new PC is needed
