Need Some Help With A Solo...

The song will be on a CD and that CD will be sold for a good cause. Me and my friend who are making the song have like the whole song finished, but the solo. We have the riffs all assembled to one. But as I already mentionned: we still need some solo-ish thingie. That would be awesome. But the problem is that we don't know how to write a solo... And that's why I ask the almighty GMC-forum to help me out! Do you have any soloing strategies? Or maybe some special suggestions? Please tell me! It would be so cool! Thanks! -Davidian- PS: It's a metalsong. Tempo of the backingtrack of the solo is 140 bpm and it's in the key of D minor, I think. I`d probably start with some improvisation over the chord structure, usually hit on a melody or a run etc that would be the start, then I`d work around that idea and as Muris says follow your ears, I`d probably record several takes of the improvisation too and listen back and pick bits out that I liked and piece them together that way.
