Hey Farmer Joe and welcome to my MTP group smile.gif ,

What I would like to do, is to give you an assignment (individual assignment, to be posted in your personal thread) for each week giving you some homework. In addition to this, I would like to give you some exercises and/or theory to study during the week (which are the group assignments, to be posted in the groups thread - check the one which is currently ongoing and please start working on that smile.gif). The week will be completed with an upload to show me your progress on the assignment.

The first couple of individual assignments will be focussing on some of the basics, in order for me to assess what your current weak / strong spots are and to further develop the assignments more in line with what you all need.

The assignments will be posted in seperate threads on this subforum. Please upload your takes of it in your own upload thread, which is pinned smile.gif

As a start, I would like to ask you to answer the following questions:

1) Could you give me a brief background on yourself (name, age, how long you play, your main influences, type of music you like)?

2) Could you give me an idea how far your theory knowledge is developed (which scales do you know, what shapes, modes, chords etc etc)?

3) Please list all lessons from GMC which you already completed succesfully?

4) What are your main weaknesses currently, which need extra attention according to yourself?

5) How much time are you willing to (can you) spend on guitar practicing per day?

6) What are your main goals to be achieved in music?

Thanks for answering these questions, and I am looking forward to start working with you smile.gif

I have posted the individual assignment for you as well already.

Cheers
Roger

Hey what's up Roger and the rest of the group? Glad to be in this. I definitely need the help and motivation to get going with building and improving my skills.

1) My name is Luey (I don't mind if you guys call me that either) and I am 23 years old. I've been playing, or trying to play, for just a little over a year now. I've only just started to get more serious about it over the past few months. I still don't know how to play a full solo or song yet, I've just know very small bits and pieces from some songs. I just can't seem to dedicate myself to learning just one song, so I go all over the place.
As far as my main influences go there's a lot because I listen to a lot of different music. I've pretty much been a hip-hop head all my life, until just the past 3-4 years where I started to branch out to all different kinds of music. Hip-hop just didn't seem to have the same raw and intellectual energy that it used too and all the mainstream rap music just sounds like the same garbage. There was just too much materialism and not enough love for the music, and me, I love music, so I couldn't have that anymore. I started listening to rock a lot more and I just felt the passion and energy. Right now I listen to (I'll just list what comes to mind at the moment) Disturbed, ACDC, old Metallica, Pantera, some Yngwie, Guns and Roses, The Mars Volta, Foreigner, Eagles, my boy Carlos Santana, Van Halen, SevenDust, Velvet Revolver, Pink Floyd, Def Leppard, Iced Earth. Ronnie James Dio and the list can go on and on from the other genres I listen to as well. As far as influences, I think its just good music that influences me and i try to draw out some of that energy from everything.

2) I've also been teaching myself music theory slowly over the past year and a half. It is also just recently that I've been translating it over to the guitar. On guitar, I know the the major scale formula and shape. I know the formula for the minor scale, it just takes me a little figuring out to work out the shape according to the major scale one.
I also know the first shapes for the major chords, I have yet to start moving them around on the neck. I've also a little experience with barre chords. Takes me a while to get my fingers in position to play them. The minor pentatonic scale is also something I know, I think everybody learns this one right away. I know the first and second shapes for the minor pentatonic scale. I am also slightly familiar with the CAGED system, but only a little. I think that's about it though, I don't really know too much.

3) I haven't really completed any yet. I am currently working on the alternate picking lesson, I believe its called Right Hand Basics https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...ht-hand-basic1/
I am also working on the Finger Independence Lesson as well. The Right hand basics lesson is coming along pretty good, a little slow on my end, but I'll get it eventually. Finger Independence is a bit tougher, I realized that my 3rd and 4th fingers need a lot of help with hammering on, so that's what I've been doing the last 2 days, just hammering on with the 3rd and 4th fingers.

4) My weaknesses have to be hammering on with the 3rd and 4th finger, but I think now that I'm paying a lot of attention to that aspect of my playing that it will progress soon. Keeping my rhythm and timing is also a weakness, and it also just seems too take me a little too long to reposition my fingers from one major chord to the next, I need some speed. In general, I'm pretty weak all around.

5) I work full time and go to school where I study computer programming, so that consumes a lot of my time, but i can still put in about an hour a day on my guitar. I usually have the weekends off, and my girl works, so I have a chance to get about 2 - 3 or sometimes even more on the weekends.

6) My first and primary goal is to live a life full of music. I love it and i always want to continue to gain more knowledge, experience, and keep finding new good music to listen to. I would also like to someday have immense power with a guitar in my hand haha. I just really want to learn the instrument well and be able to write my own music and record it. It doesn't have to be anything big, but I would love to have a band, write the music, write the lyrics, play guitar, and record in my home studio. Also would love to do some small shows someday. Ever since I've started purchasing home studio equipment back like 6 years ago, I've always dreamed of creating a good album. Its a long ways away, but that is a goal of mine.

Well that's it for my intro. Thanks again Roger for taking me into your group. I'll get on those first assignments as soon as I can too.

peace
