i got a fender tc 90 and i feel it is not powerful enough so i was wondering if the wiring would be difficult to put a extra single coil such as a hotrail or the dimarzio thingie inbetween my 2 P90s and also i was wondering would i be complicated replacing 2 p90s? would there be the same amount of wires in the equation so i can just put the new wires where the old ones were or is it different? at the moment i am guessing all pickups have 2 bits of wires coming out of them, and they go on into the volume knob and i dont really care about cutting extra holes in it as u probably worked out as i said i want to put another pickup in it heellllppp me mike M!!!! or any other tech geniussesss Pickups have actually MORE than just two wires coming out of them and to confuse things further there seem to not be a standard coloring so what wires-coror comes out of one brand can be different than another. That's why suppliers always carry wiring instructions. Just follow these wiring instruction and you'll be alright. Note where the original wires were soldered, that should help. Is THIS the guitar? To put an extra pu in the middle would call for a few different operations. 1. rout a new cavity to fit the mid pu 2. I suppose there's routing from the next pu, via the bridge to the control cavity so no extra routing for the wire I guess. (And that it's not hollow underneath already, I don't belive so - should be wood in the middle and hollow on the side). But the mid pu routing will come close to the hole on the side. And extra wires for the mid pu 3. There's a three way toggle on, meaning you'd have three pu selections to use from. May want to concider a five way switch. 4. The setup will be somewhat odd, S-H-S, but hey.. nothing says that shouldn't sound good though. But since you don't want to route another whole in it, as you said, it rules our the extra pu in the middle. Well... not entirely since there are special pu's that can be top mounted, but I'm not sure where to find those or where to lead the cables though. Exchanging the tho P90's with two humbuckers would be easier. Same there, mark where the cables from the P90's were and look up what they were for, then find out the purpose of the new cables and lead them to the same place and solder them stuck there. And by the looks of it the P90's will leave you with a larger hole and nowhere to fit a frame to cover the humbucker. Nothing that can't be solved with a little woodwork and glue but you could also just leave it as it is, just make sure you can mount the new pu's befor you get them (if they can't sit in a frame them must sit mounted in the bottom).... so maybe you have to add wood to the sides for the fram to be screwed stuck to. We can come back to that if you decide what to do EDIT: By the way, IMO that looks like a killer guitar. For rock and blues, but I see what you mean if you want to play heavier stuff.
