Welcome Maes - this is a great question!
Well I had been enjoying rock/metal music quite a while before deciding to go serious with the guitar.
However the main thing was that I need a challenge - to see if I can could really be good at something if I put all my effort into it.
When I decided to try it my whole life became so much more enjoyable - because I could wake up every morning and think about what I should practice - and how to refine my strategy of success!
I still work the exact same way - I need to have ongoing challenges, preferably things which I haven't done before, that's how I get my kicks! As some of you have heard I am now trying to learn how to sing - that is definately a challenge for me!
