Having enjoyed GMC for well over a year (since july 2007), I just found out I never introduced myself. Shameful, so here goes...
My name is Rik Veldhuizen, 37 yrs old and living in the Netherlands. Married, 2 daughters...
Started playing the bass guitar when I was about 15 yrs old, nothing serious, just 'inspired' by my father, who was a bass player in a hobby band when I was a kid (that means a lot of Creedence, Pink Floyd and others when I was really young). Played it for a couple of years in a band that went nowhere, but heaps of fun (typical friends band), but stopped playing around 1994
. For many years, I hardly touched the bass at all, though the ability to buy a real american Fender Jazz Bass in the late nineties re-inspired it.
But I wanted to play the guitar as well, so I bought a cheap electric guitar about 6 yrs ago. Great fun to play with, bought an acoustic as well, and 2 years ago I finally laid my hands on an american Fender Strat. A real joy to play.
In the meantime, I added some drums (electronic Roland drums) and keyboard (midi keyboard through Garageband) possibilities after I created some studio space in my house (actually, in a detached garage, also used for office and movie purposes
), so I can now finally play around with all the instruments that I really enjoy. Which of course, leads to a lack of focus, but that's a different story. Sometimes it is just fun to hack around on the drums with Helloween's Victim of Fate in the background, sometimes it's more fun to jam around on the guitar using Led Z as the background.
I'll probably end up being able to play a nr of instruments, but none properly or really well at all... But I do enjoy it all
And now my 7 year old started to play to guitar as well (though she needs a capo on the normal sized guitar that was not being used to make the neck short enough for her
. Let's see where that ends up...
