If your goal is to buy them for rehearsals and small gigs you can look at some Behringer or Mackie speakers.
If you want active speakers, you'll also need a mixer but I guess you already know this For passive speakers you need also a power-amp or a mixer that can do this job. -------------------- ::: Main Gear ::: Guitars: Washburn N4 Vintage | Washburn N2 | Washburn WI67Pro | Washburn WG-587 | Washburn EA20B Amps: Laney GH50L (head) | Laney GS410 & GS212IE (cabinets) | Rocktron PROGAP Ultra (rack preamp) | Rocktron Velocity 150 (power amp) | Marshall VS230 (combo) FXs: Rocktron Intellifex + custom pedalboard (check my video demo) Other: Shredneck | Intellitouch PT10 tuner Picks: Esseti Picks Software & Recording Gear: Cubase 4 | Overloud TH1 | Mackie Onyx 400F | EZdrummer | Korg Pandora PX4D ------------------------------------------------------- myspace.com/jerryarcidiacono Check out my video lessons and instructor board! |

Well, some small bars doesn't have a resident PA so it's always a good choice to have a set of speakers. In this way, you can play also on some places where usually there aren't live shows.. until they have the permission to do this

You can get very small, portable, vocal pa systems that pack up to a single carry case unit. Macking and Behringer both make this type of model. That way you have a full pa in case you need it in a small place without needing to carry a big pa, and you have good vocal amplification for your researsal space. Here is one that is quite reasonably priced and very portable. About $250
