Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hi I take advantage of not having pain in my arms to record this magnificent lesson. I posted a 1st version 10 days ago on Gab's post, but he must be busy because I haven't had an answer yet. I put this news online hoping to have respected the contract. I played with my heart and my guts, I got bewitched by the blues with this one. Have a nice day

Hi Manu!

I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better. Your take is very promising. I like your tone and I think it fits well with the lesson. Now let's go through a few details:

Picking direction - please try to pay more attention to this area. In your take, you used a random picking direction and because of that, you replaced some techniques from the lesson. This thing affected the tone and feel.

I would have liked to see you using the raking technique as Gab did in his take. It's an amazing "tool" which should not be avoided (mostly in blues playing).

I think it would be awesome if you would take more care of the expressive elements like accents and dynamics. Too many pick strokes with the same picking strength will always make things sound square. These kinds of lessons are a perfect workout for "tone of the hand".
When you practice a lesson, try to capture how the notes differ tonally and try to imitate this how much you can.

Overall, your take sounds very nice, but you need a little more focus and more time to make this sound flawless. You get a 7 from me.

Keep up your awesome job!

I really enjoyed your take! It's got a lot of elements in it that you combine really well to make it sound quite good. Blues based lessons are a great chance to work on dynamics. As was mentioned by Monica, (great review as always) if the picking doesn't have variation in the dynamics (lighter pick strikes and harder pick strikes) the results can sound a bit more flat than we would like.

One way to fight this is to select leading notes in a given phrase and lean on them just a bit. E.G. strike quite a bit harder on notes leading into a given passage and then contrast that by striking more lightly on the following notes. With a mid gain tone, such as the one you are using, picking dynamics can really shine. If the gain is too high, picking dynamics get lost entirely.

This is just one element of course, in a sea of bits that come together to create musically interesting playing. Also, exaggerating bits of vibrato is another method of creating a more dynamic sense in a passage. E.G. using stronger, deeper vibrato contrasted with subsequent lighter vibrato.

Both of these examples are about contrast. Strikes, vibrato, speed, etc. Nearly every element of playing can be used in this same way.

You did a really good job on this one and I look forward to your next piece! Solid 8 from me smile.gif

Todd

Very nice!

I think you caught the vibe and groove really well.

I agree about the expressive tips already given.

I also sense you might be keeping the pulse with your right hand (and not your foot?). If so, that makes any inconsistencies in picking very dangerous.

Ideally you would have a steady pulse in your foot [tapping] - as this will give you more freedom when playing.

I also suspect this is something you could work on even days when your hands don't want to cooperate?

Either way this is a really cool and musical take - well done mate 🤗

Hey Manu,

I am back home smile.gif

I just gave you feedback on this lesson in the mentoring thread, but let me repeat some lines here. I think you managed this tricky lesson very well. There is of course some room for improvement, especially in terms of timing and cleanness, but overall it sounds very good.

Please take more time to work on the details, like vibrato, bending, dynamics, and of course adjusting the timing.

This take goes through here, but I feel like you can get a bit more out of this solo.

Congratulations and keep up the good work!
