Here it is after so many personal messages and e mails from you guys. Sorry I have been very busy recently but now I am back to contribute more in GMC activities.
This track is in 130bpm and has kinda slower rock ballad feel. You can use any technique. There are places for slow long notes, fast runs, maybe tapping if you want or even some arpeggios. Stylisticaly you can play any rock style. From jazz rock to neoclassical metal if you like You have about 45 seconds to play - enough to show us some creativity. You can start with slow melodies and buld up later. The chord progression is: Section 1 Am, Am/G, Am/F#, Am/F (or Fmaj7 if you like), Am, Am/G, D, E7 Section 2 Am, Bdim7, Bdim7 (again the same one, but this time you can move it to the next inversion Ddim7 or even think of this one as E7), Am, F, G (or G7), C, E7 Section 3 The same as section 1 The first 4 chords - you can play A minor scales (pentatonic or aeolian) but it's up to you how much you want to extract from here and go for a more "spicy" approach The track consists of 3 sections and it might sound unfinished when you stop playing but it should sound ok when the next person takes over the solo. Please do not play all the way after the last chord - think that somebody else is coming after you. Please pay attention on your guitar sound. This is rock style backing so your sound should be warm with some nice overdrive but do not go extreme to trash metal sound. You can record with effects if you like but don't put too much delay. I need to have a good raw definition of your sound in order to mix it nicely. Please export the track from the begining exactly as the backing. The first bar is empty, the second bar is click (metronome) and the song starts from the 3rd bar. I only need your solo exported, not the full mix with the backing. Also don't export stereo track unless you use a stereo delay or some other stereo effect. There is no limited number of participants. You have 2 weeks exactly to submit the track on this same thread. The deadline is January 24. After that I will need 3-5 days to submit the mix and comments. If you have any question you can ask here. I hope you will enjoy this one and I am looking forward to some great takes. Cheers ----------------------------------------------- Participants that confirmed their entry: 1. superize 2. Smells 3. Great work so far guys. I am starting to sort the takes in the mix today. Lot of work though
Well, if I try any harder, I'm gonna loose my mind, so with its errors and unfluid sweeps and timing errors, here is my take. And also right now I am experiencing some technical difficulties with my soundcard, there are some nearly inaudible clicks and pops on the record, I dont know why but they are there... And this is my first neoclassical try so I am kinda rookie. Here it is: Maybe you have some resident programs in your tray eating your memory or doing some background work and disturbing your hard drive. No worries about that, I will not count it in the comment but if you do a proper session work you should always make sure you don't send stuff until is 100% polished. We still have a plenty of time for submiting the tracks. Anyway thank you for this one I haven't heard one take I haven't liked yet, amazing!! I'm still working on mine and since it is my first one I am a little nervous about posting but I am going to force myself to do it. Even if it blows. Only way to improve. Good job so far everybody and thanks again for doing this Emir!! Thank you Take your time, still many days left Man, while working on this one, I did a great improvement... I was never been able to play my own solo over a backing track - but today it has changed! I just sat down and.... played! For the first time. Great to hear that. That's why these collaborations turn to something useful We'll do more of these in the future and if you think it helps your playing then come back and do some more omg so many great takes my isn't even close Here is it I really think that I could have done better [attachment=12519:Emir__s_...olo_nb_3.mp3] [attachment=12518:Emir__s_...b_solo_3.mp3] Good, thank you Here's my take Emir.. I'm not the fastest player around, but hopefully I've got some other qualities If I get the time I'll try to record a second one, but we'll see.. I think it turned out ok, so I hope you and the rest of the guitaraholics like it With Backing: [attachment=12515:Emir_Collab_WBT.mp3] Without Backing: [attachment=12516:Emir_Collab_NBT.mp3] Thanks. You don't need to play fast. Slower solos can also be very nice if structured properly. Ok Emir, here's my take. I used direct out from my POD X3 and thought that I was sending a completely dry signal to the DAW, but only after finishing the take, did I notice there is a very small amount of delay on the signal. This is embedded in the take. I hope this will still work. [attachment=12532:Collab1_...Backing1.mp3] [attachment=12531:Collab1_...wBacking.mp3] Don't worry about that. Maybe there was some effect turned on in your software and it was exported with the track. It's going to be ok. Thanks Thanks guys, this solo gave me some headache... Emir's comments on his instructor collab scared the hell out of me , but motivated me even more. I'm sound-wise not completely happy with this take (annoying delay in the middle part, which i can not remove), but i tried at least to do it the best i can, so i'm really happy that you guys like it. Hahaha, you shouldn't worry about that mate. That was instructor collaboration and for that reason I was a bit strict. Comments for this one are not going to go that way but I will give you the honets oppinions. My point there wasn't to teach them how to play but to point out some stylistical, technical and recording issues that I thought they failed. But they are all great players. You just play the best you can and don't worry about the rest. This is not a competition. We are having fun, learning new stuff and getting some more experience -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile
