Very often, for me, short stories and novellas translate to film much better than a full novel, perhaps because the narrative is brief enough for a film to do it justice. Here the film compliments rather than just offers a straight adaptation One exception for a full length book is Ishiguru´s The Remains of the Day - personally I found the book torturous but enjoyed and far prefer the film.
