Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Winter Wonderland by Guido Bungenstock

HI GMC
I learn this lesson for 1 year.
It is harder than I thought

My difficulties
- Timing
- Cleanliness Chords
- Tone

Today, I think it's unachieved goal.
There is always errors of timing and chords don't voicing very well on the nec.
Tone is not bright as guido.

I'm "Native Instrument Guitar Rig" user, I don't have other gear.
I dream play in music room on amp, but I can't. :/

Guido advises me to play relaxed, but it is difficult to do better.
If I compare with the first take, there is some progress.

I had planned to put him online for Chrystmas 2016
It is a failure, but I do not want to play it any more

Hey there!

First of all I would like to boost your self-esteem. It's not even close to how you think it is...I mean...not bad at all! I have read your comment before launching the video and I haven't found anything to be as serious as you describe. My first impression were thumb played chords getting a little lost in the mix. I found it a little hard to judge the playing itself at those parts but at the point they are now, they sound nice and smooth...maybe just a few strums that seemed to be slightly off the beat.

As for solo part...
I don't find your tone being a failure at all. It's just a little warmer than original one. Guido has more a linear tone with more air in the treble end. You have more mids pushed out but I actually like it. I don't know how you felt while playign but it doesn't look tensed.
First few notes have a tiny hand sync problems but rest of the solo has a good flow and I don't hear any problems there. Accents are ok, warm fills are well contrasted with accents.

Hi man, it's always great to get a festive REC!

As Darius said, it's nowhere near as bad as you implied! Whilst we're on the subject, if you list all of your critical observations of your own take first then you leave us with nothing to say! laugh.gif

The main rhythm section is generally good. Only a few little instances of going out of time. They were also too low in the mix. I'm sure you probably thought that you couldn't mix it higher as the solo would then be too prominent but what you could do in future is just chop the track at that point and drop it onto an identical track you made ready and just alter the volumes individually. Either that or use automation to lower the volume during the solo, after setting the rhythm volume at a satisfactory level.

The opening run on the solo at 1.11 is not as clear as you intended, I'm sure. Some of the notes didn't come out, maybe you missed them with the pick.

The sliding lick is ok but not quite as even as you intended.

Not bad at all! Merry Xmas!

Hi MisterM,

I'm with Darius and Ben here. Your take is bad as you anticipate it in your post. I think that this is good. I've seen much better recording from you but I think that it's just a matter of getting more familiar with this one (mostly with the solo section).

I can't hear clearly the chords, but it seems that more of them sound good and tight. I think that there are just a few with timing issues. On the other hand, the solo section has room to sound tighter and more consistent.

If you enjoy playing this one, you could keep it in your diary practice to get more familiar with the parts and then be able to play the whole lesson more relaxed. But I know that you are working on many lessons at the same time, so you could also focus on the other stuff.

Keep on the hard work!
