Welcome to SHRED BOOTCAMP! I'll be your Drill Instructor! And I do mean DRILL! As in a large power tool used in slasher films and Paul Gilbert concerts. Here is were you EARN THE LIVING DEATH out of your fingers and break through any speed bumps/barriers to become a MASTER CHIEF of Shred!
QUICK TIPS TO PREPARE YOU FOR BATTLE
*Make sure you get both hands in the shot when shooting your video*Make sure you use a metronome for the first several Missions and that the metronome can be heard.*After you complete a mission, shoot me a PM and let me know it's ready and I'll give you a debrief! These are pass / fail, so if you pass you BADGE UP and if not, I'll give you some feedback and you head in to the breach once again.
*The first several missions are VERY simple. They are just to get you used to the bootcamp process.
*Most importantly, there is NEVER a speed requirement in bootcamp. I want you to push yourself to play as brisk as you can, but NEVER at the expense of precision. If you find you are missing a note here and there, slow down a bit. Speed is just a byproduct of precision so my goal is to make you a very precise player. At that point, speed just happens.
MISSON #1

THE MISSION

1.)Your mission is to go all the way back to the very start. The base of the mountain.

LESSON 1. http://bitly.com/gmclesson1

Which you will play SUPER PERFECT!. Speed it up bit by bit until you feel your ready to take it to WAR (Any speed, it's up to you, no points for speed, only points for playing in a precise manner as speed is simply a byproduct of precision) Shoot a video and post it as a reply to this post. Make sure to EMBED the video by clicking on INSERT SPECIAL ITEM above the smiley face and then you'll get a drop down menu. Click on INSERT YOUTUBE VIDEO and follow the instructions in the Pop Up Menu. I'll then offer a constructive and brutally honest critique.

THE AFTERMATH

Upon nailing the crap out of lesson one at a speed you didn't think possible, and playing it a clean as a freshly waxed floor, you will be given your first insignia of Rank in BOOTCAMP! You will then proceed to Lesson #2 and so forth. Here is the link to the entire 400 plus Lesson Library. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/inde...rtal:Techniques

Here is the link to your own PRIVATE HOUSE OF PAIN!...Er I mean.. SHRED!

I had a little time and record first 10 exercises and collect in one video, there are some timing errors that usually come up at the beginning of run.

0:31 - 2ex 70bpm(4th and 8th)
0:47 - 3ex 90bpm (triplets and sixths)
1:13 - 4ex 60bpm (5th and 10th)
1:47 - 5ex 70bpm(4th and 8th)
2:50 - 6ex 130bpm 4th

Impressive!!! I can see that you are clearly bringing a lot to the table here. You can clearly alreadh shred. Our goal will be to get to to a place where you play each note, each riff, with extreme precision. Never missing a note, a stroke, etc. You are just starting out but I think you are ready for the challenges that lay ahead.

I don't typically grade/badge more than one Mission at a time, but after watching your video, you have officially "Tested out" of the 10 Missions. I see no value in having you wait for the feedback one by one when your ability merits tougher challenges that the next missions should provide.

Lesson 10 is a real finger twister and you tore through it like a pro!!!! The Current TOP DOG in Bootcamp has just made it past Mission 100 and is diving in to the deep water. With your skill and drive, you could be the new TOP DAWG in no time at all. I encourage a friendly competition between Soldiers. It can bring out the best in them. That's why we have Badges.

There are certain things I look for in Each Mission. Since we are grading 10 of them, I'll be looking for the most important bits in all of them.

Let's Debrief!!!!
MEDALS OF HONOR
PICK ARTICULATION: One of the hardest things to teach is how to properly articulate the pick. To avoid using the forearm/"picking from the elbow" technique and focus on picking from the thumb/first finger and wrist. You are doing a great job on the slower bits. The only issue is when you start playing fast. Your pick arm stiffens a bit and you start to use a bit of forearm. It's not enough to prevent you from badging, but it's something that we will work on. Before long you will be able to play at any speed you like using only your wrist and thumb/first finger.

As an example, here is my take from a recent collab here at GMC. Look at my pick hand. Notice that I'm picking using wrist, at speed. My forearm isn't part of it. Also, notice I don't ever tense my picking hand. That's one of the keys to the kingdom of shred.

MUTING: Another stick point is Palm Muting. Teaching students to keep the right hand planted and rotate it rather than moving it up and down the bridge. You have a good muting technique that I think we can perfect as you go. The goal being to keep the hand centered on the bridge so that you can reach the high E and low E without moving your palm mute off the bridge. Just by rotating your hand a bit.

Here is an example of "Center Strategy" keeping the palm centered on the bridge and rotating to reach all of the strings.

HAND SYNCHRONIZATION: You have very good hand synch. You have clearly put in your practice time! I did notice that on some of the faster passages, you drifted from the metronome a bit. Yiou were still in time with yourself, I could count time on what you were playing and it was solid, it was just not always connected to the metronome. This happens sometimes when we focus on the playing and go a bit deaf to the click. Adding more clicks can be a handy way to make sure your striking on a click.

Here is a quick video with a ton of Hand Synch Licks. When playing at speed, one miss from Synch and it will stick out like a sore thumb. The good news is your synch is great!

You fought well Soldier!! You've earned the right to wear the 10 Badge!!! You just..
LEVELED UP!!!
