I compared a lot of overdrives to my ts9 and I can say in terms of coloration (with distorted amp), it was the best among the stuff I tried that didn't change the amps character.
Most overdrives add a noticable peak to the tone, the ts9 does this too but its much less obvious. If you don't want to low end to be cut then there's the ts9dx too...
For shred though I seem to prefer clean boosters which was a surprise to me when I was testing stuff
almost all clean boosters add some coloration like the overdrive but much less and keeps the bass freq.s of the guitar (keep in mind though my guitar is a bit brighter compared to modern humbuckers) so its the most treansparent solution.
Your amp already has the potential on crazy distortion so I don't think you'll need aggressive drive settings on pedals anyway. If you're fine with the mxr no need to confuse yourself, the harder thing is trasforming the amps sound which involves lots of testing gear.
