I really love this aggresive metal playing!!! I assure that all the hits are downstrokes! I don't know if some parts look like my hand is moving alternate, but they are all definetely downstrokes, which made a great workout for my picking hand!!!

Hi George!

Great to see you rocking this lesson! I can say that your metal rhythm playing is getting very good. You can play this one at tempo over the backing track without really important issues.

I would dedicate some more time to the riff starting at 00:20, which can sound more consistent. The problem there seems to be hnads sync so isolate the part and be sure to use strictly down picking there. After writting this I've read your comment about picking! Yeah, it seems to be alternate picking in some parts....

Besides this, I think that there is some room to adjust timing, and the overal sound of your palm muting. Put more emphasis on listening the sound of what you are playing, and try to emulate my dynamics (notice the work of my right hand and how I don't always strum with the same intensity).

The Anvil "Style" is all about Naked Aggression and you have that in SPADES!!! So you are off to a fine start Getting in to the vibe of the backing is key in coming across as being locked in to the groove of playing it and it's clear you are in to it!!! Super props there. It's really easy to tell if someone is just not that in to it and the performance just lacks Oooomph. Plenty of Ooophm here. On to the technical bits!
You keep a nice "Center Strategy" palm mute which is something I"m always banging on about as it's really important. One way to make repetitive bits seem more dynamic is to mute part of the riff and let part of the riff ring out. So keeping your hand close to the bridge is very handy.

Also, good use of PINKY POWER here as you are not relying on just the first three fingers. The pinky is often neglected and it's the key to being a truly great player IMHO. Without that Pinky, one only plays with four fingers. Playing With all 5, including the thumb when needed, is what really sets players apart.

You have a good sense of the vibe of this tune and of Metal in general. I enjoyed your performance and can see that you spent time making it worth listening too. I'd say keep this piece as a warm up and keep working on getting it as tight as possible. But for now, Solid 7 from me!!

Cool! I agree this is startin to get solid!

The biggest thing for me is the right hand attack. The downstrokes sound weak. I think that if you allowed yourself to use a bit more wrist motion - you'd get more attack, but would still get "back on time".

After all, the biggest reason to use downstrokes only is because of the tone you get - and part of it is due to the bigger motion giving more attack.

I don't spot any alternate picking but I could be wrong.

Keep it up, you get a 7 from me.

I find your "frozen" wrist to be most common problem of yours. After watching a bunch of your takes through last months, that's definitely the thing I would highly suggest to focus on. You move most of your strength source to the forearm which is usually more exchausing and tensed while palying. Wriost can make miracles if managed to use properly - solid strength plus relax while playing and execution of some difficult parts even without a huge warm-up each time you play it. I promise it's a thing you want feel works immediately. Every time we want to brak out from old habits, everythin new feels weird and uncomfortable. It's an example whne you need to make one step beck to be able to make 2 steps forward. Make a step back with your right hand because it will block you ability to play more advanced stuff in the future. Think of the future, not of the present day. It's one of the last moments to redo things before you'll did into habits seriously.
