Here's a little improv: http://ddev.ath.cx/~rile/mixdown.mp3

I made a little mistake in it, but I decided to post it anyway wink.gif

I really have to force myself to study some theory! Especially learn the fretboard so I can land on the STRONG notes smile.gif

sounded pretty nice, but a few tips

I'd adjust the mix a bit, it was a little tough to hear the lead guitar over the backing. Raise the solo and lower the volume of the rhythm

the chorus you added to the rhythm sounded nice, but since you're soloing with a clean sound...it almost takes over your tone. The lead tone doesn't have that much...separation i guess from the backing track

if you look at my improv a few posts up, i think i did a pretty nice job of allowing the lead tone to stand out from the rhythm tone

Oh, I missed your post!

You have a point there. I'll think of it on my next recording. Thanks for the tips! smile.gif

i just got a new pedal!!! boss DD-3

here's a little jam i made using it...nothing really impressive though, more of a tone clip than anything else. Just a little G Ionian wankage

That was great, nice tone!

Here's something quite different that a friend and I have done:

http://ddev.ath.cx/~rile/marcus2-v2.mp3
http://ddev.ath.cx/~rile/yaya-01.mp3

I play the guitars and he played around with it and made a beat. Some of it will probably be used in a whole song later on (rap) wink.gif

Sounds great - especially the second one had an original feel! Who is going to do the rapping? >:< smile.gif

Thanks, I like the second one best too actually! biggrin.gif

It's a friend of mine who's going to rap, the same guy that sampled my recordings. I'll post the result here if anyone's interested! It may take a while though smile.gif

Bought Masterclass... $$ for Kris =D

Anyway.. saw this thread and decided to post something I recorded one late night here in the bedroom. Note.. I don't record with a mic, but directly into the computer so no powerful amp for me. smile.gif

Its like a blues jam type thing.. I cut it a little short because after the part I stopped at.. I start doing all kinds of crazy stuff that wasn't even good. haha.

http://209.85.32.12/~rsanders/guitar/random-impro.wma

That should work ^^^!

You have some cool licks in there! Personally I would go for a more more of an overdrive sound with that kind of backing and feel - instead of a hi-gain solo sound.

Other than that----keeep rocking!!!!!!! biggrin.gif

Yeah. I feel ya. I will keep workin on it.. I really need to learn a bunch of licks.. I don't really know that many. They start to get repetitive.. or either its just me being picky when listening back.

And a question for you Kris.... when you are improvising.. are you thinking about what scale you are in while your doing it? Or over time, has it just became so natural that you just play?

That's a relevant question. For most blues/rock improvisations where you don't necassily need to play different scales (Ie where one is enough) i don't need to think very much about which scale I am plying in. After having practiced most somon scales for a long time, the scale patterns are in my fingers!

Now if I am attempting to solo over a progression where I need to change scales - then I will have to very actively think! >:<

I think it sounds pretty cool - you are playing like you mean it with heavy vibrato and hard picking, nice!

Why don't you do it one more time, but with a backing. This way we will get an impression of your sense of rhythm and phrasing! smile.gif

Hey everybody whats new? Sorry I haven't been around the last few weeks, I have been working pretty hard on getting my band's album produced and out there (not to mention those tedious summer jobs).

Here's a snipet of the outro solo to one of our songs. It's actually a three minute long outro solo laugh.gif . I had fun in a funky/srv like jam atmosphere and this was mostly improvised one take, not counting some fun I had at the end with pans/harmonies. Any thoughts would be much appreciated biggrin.gif .
