Slit Cut Into Fret On Guitar Options

Hi Guys

Went to play my guitar and felt my string grabbing on fret. I found there is a slit cut into the fret. How this happened I don't know? Could it have been the string? I wouldn't think so. So maybe my kids have done something knocked it over maybe.
Do you think it will polish out or should I take to shop to get new fret put in?

Hey Zoom, By the looks of the picture I would have a luthier take a gander at it first. A deep cut like that might be too difficult to file and polish out. You might end up with some fret buzz or completely fretting out if too much is filed off. It already looks like there might be a worn spot there or a dent from the accident?

I would go to a luthier first , too !

Looks to me like a worn spot too, something is going on with the wood .

Hmm, it;s ordinary for frets to get a bit pitted but that is most definitely a pronounced slit. Yeah, a luthier is going to be the most sensible answer unfortunately

It happens a lot and frets wearing out I wouldn't suggest polishing it yourself because if you will do too much you will get a lot of buzz take it to a guitar shop and they should be able to do it
Your other frets seemed fine so don't re fret the whole guitar all they have to do is polish the frets but all of them needs to be polished so it's even
