Hey guys, for a while now I've been getting a blank screen and black bar when i try to open an audio file, say a take from a GMC collaboration for example. It looks like this:

Now, I still get the audio, and in fact I can even pause and move the tracker around to change the time (though I can't see any of this), but I can't see anything. It's a bit annoying, needless to say. May it be a thing to do with 64bit vista? Anyone know what I can do?

My first guess would be something with your video driver. Try and reinstall your video driver or update to a newer version if one is available.

EDIT: Also using certain themes or skins from 3rd party vendors can cause wierd problems like this. Just another tought.

"Think of a guitar solo as a paragraph. You need a clear beginning, a middle, and an end. Look at musical phrases like sentences, and make sure you break them up using punctuation—or space. You pause naturally when conversing, right? If you don't, you'll bore the listener. The same thing will happen with your audience if your solo is one dimensional. You'll wear them out and lose their attention." —Tom Principato

I'm not using any skins. But something interesting happened. I tried to use windows update, and it gives me a windows cannot find '___' error. If you want the full error I can do that. While I would like to get this fixed too, is there another way I can update my drivers?

Yeah sometimes Windows Updates can be a Windows nightmare. I would Google the error just out of curiosity.

Maybe just go to the manufactures sight for your video card and download the latest 64bit driver. If that doesn't work then maybe just try restoring a restore point before the Windows Update. Then turn Updates off.

I recommend VLC Media Player, is a gret player that supports a lot of formats.
Also the WIndows Media Classic is a great player too to .mov, .mp3, etc

If you don't manage to get it sorted, then just change your preferences to make the file open in vlc or WMP instead of using the quicktime plugin (which i know is handy for quickly checking out peoples takes for collabs etc. )
If you set it to "open with.." instead of "save to" you won't have audio files littered across your drive either- just delete your temporary files every now and then to stay on top of things.

You're welcome mate!

Just in case
You make a right click over any media file and then: Properties- Change (where you have the selected program to play the file). And then you select VLC media player.
