So far my favourite pickups have been Seymour Duncan / Seth Lover SH55s. Upgrade to stock pickups on my Hagstrom Viking Deluxe with these - turned a good guitar into an exceptional one, and into what is now my #1 choice "go to" guitar. Very responsive to subtelties in playing and I have a preference for this sort of Vintage style of pups - clear with natural ringing sustain. cool.gif

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a serial upgrader recently on pickups. Got hold of a PRS SE Soapbar and an upgrade to Tonerider Vintage Alnico II P90s were a hugely worthwhile investment. Also my self build "Strat" originally had Wilkinson pickups in it - very good value for the money - but a recent upgrade to handmade single coils by a one man band were a huge improvement.

I used to think that a pickup upgrade was just for the sound / tonal benefit, but I feel now that really good pups bring a huge improvement to playability too.

Hey man, how does the PRS SE Soapbar feel? I never tried that one smile.gif

The one I have was discontnued - picked up one of the last of the new ones in the UK nearly 2 years ago for £330.

Link below to the PRS page about it. Their pictures don't do it justice - but it is a difficult finish to capture.
PRS SE Soapbar
Closest I got to a decent picture of the finish on it:-

Made in Korea. Very, very easy guitar to play. Nice light 7.5 lbs. The neck just seems to fit in the hand perfectly - PRS call it a wide fat neck, but it seems neither wide nor fat. Set up was very nice out of the box, intonation spot on with the bridge causing no issues (only height adjustabel at either end). The finish is beautiful - couldn't find a flaw or blemish or rough fret end etc. Beautifully balanced on the strap.

The only flaw for me was the "hot" stock P90 pickups - after putting in Tonerider Alnico II Vintage P90s it became my "go to" guitar till teh Hagstrom got its SH55s installed.

Check out your serial number and post it here - Gibson owners will direct you towards finding out what's what with your guitar just by knowing the serial number smile.gif

Nice finish man! I can see through the pic biggrin.gif Don't worry - I think I got the same fat wide neck on the Paul Allender SE and indeed it fits so nice in the hand!

I can play the PRS SE for longer than the other electrics without feeling strain on the fingers - I'm sure it's the neck that helps. Do I recall the Paul Allender one having a rather stunning flamed maple top and the birds on the fretboard? If so ... very nice choice! smile.gif

Hehe, I knew I haven't made a bad choice when I first got my hand on them PRSes biggrin.gif

Well, it's the purple finish one, that I am using in most of my lessons here on GMC smile.gif
