Hi My name's Matt, I'm 19 and I've been playing guitar for about 3 years (can't believe it's been that long!). Buddy Holly and Queen were the two main reasons I started playing. I had a good guitar teacher who taught me alot and also introduced me to many more bands but I finished lessons last year because my new job didn't give me many free evenings. Since then I was kinda stuck just learning new songs and the amount of time I spent playing went down. GMC seems to helping to stop that! The stuff I've looked at on here is great and will keep me busy for ages! My first guitar was a Les Paul style Vintage, which is currently sitting at my mum's house. My current guitar is a Fender Strat. My Amp is a basic 10w Marshall but I hope sometime I'll have the money to get a better one One thing I don't know alot about is guitarists (I feel embarrassed to even mention it ). Can people recommend guitarists and groups I should listen to, particularly in rock and blues? Buddy Holly? I am highly impressed that a 19 year old would mention Buddy Holly. I discovered Queen very early, with their first American album. People made fun of me at the time for liking them. Actually their first Album is quite good. Their second album sucked though. After that they started putting out their more famous music, getting popular in the states. Although they had been popular in England before that. I saw a video about funny fat cats to the tune of "Fat Bottom Girls". Here it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNAC6Lik9fI I have 8 cats, got teary eyed just putting that on, love cats. Have a dog also. Love dogs to. If you don't have Rhapsody, sign up for that, $10 a month. Just when you see a name, you can listen to it without much bother, and see if you care for it. Old stuff and new stuff. They have about everything. Except they don't have "Fine Young Cannibals" doing "Don't Look Back". Your saying Buddy Holly reminded me of that. Buddy had a profound influence on music. You hear so many songs, even newer stuff, say like Green Day, and you can hear Buddy Holly in a lot of it (buried in, but he is there, he built a lot of the basement). You might try doing a google for the Top 100 Rock songs of all time. Let me do that. yes, there are a number of lists. of top 100 rock solos. Whatever, just used google. That should tell you about everybody. I have even seen lists of the top 500, top solos, top cliches, etc. etc. This post has been edited by fkalich: Apr 11 2007, 12:16 AM |

Thanks for the suggestion, I really liked Rory Gallagher.
QUOTE Buddy Holly? I am highly impressed that a 19 year old would mention Buddy Holly. I can't remember exactly how I got into that music . Peggy Sue has to be my favourite song - it was actually the first song I wanted to learn to play and it was seeing the impersonator in Rockin' on Heavens Door that pushed me into learning. I know the reason I like Queen is because my mum would put it on when I was younger whenever she cleaned the house. I had a look at the rhapsody thing but it's only available in the US (UK here) so I'll have to wait until they expand it. I've look at loads of those sorts of top 100 things on the web but for some reason it never passed my mind that it would be a good way to look for guitarists and what |
