Will you use a floating tremolo a lot? If not there's no reason since it doesn't benefit the tone.

I prefer Floyd Rose but not floating, blocked one.
That way I can still do all those dive bombs etc AND the most important thing is ultra fast restringing. Restringing but also putting broken string back in use. It has happened to me many times even during gig, string breaks on the bridge (that's where it breaks most often btw) and it takes me like 1min top to put it back, no ball, bridge isn't floating. -------------------- Youtube

It really depends on what you want to play with your guitar.
Looks at Steve Vai and what he can do with his bridge. On the other side, many guitar players are using a fixed brigde right now (like Paul Gilbert) instead of the old "trendy" Floyd Rose. As always the best solution is to have many guitars with different bridges -------------------- ::: Main Gear ::: Guitars: Washburn N4 Vintage | Washburn N2 | Washburn WI67Pro | Washburn WG-587 | Washburn EA20B Amps: Laney GH50L (head) | Laney GS410 & GS212IE (cabinets) | Rocktron PROGAP Ultra (rack preamp) | Rocktron Velocity 150 (power amp) | Marshall VS230 (combo) FXs: Rocktron Intellifex + custom pedalboard (check my video demo) Other: Shredneck | Intellitouch PT10 tuner Picks: Esseti Picks Software & Recording Gear: Cubase 4 | Overloud TH1 | Mackie Onyx 400F | EZdrummer | Korg Pandora PX4D ------------------------------------------------------- myspace.com/jerryarcidiacono Check out my video lessons and instructor board! |

Some of you have a floyd but blocked, what is the interesting thing, just change strings easily but you can't change the tune easily. You mean tuning? Yes you can, only thing that "blocks" you a little is locking nut but you can leave that open if you want. -------------------- Youtube

Is there a commercial product for this type of 'blocking'? Or did you just find something that does the job? Not sure, some people just use piece of wood to block it. On my guitar I have smaller hole for bridge, not the big one like for floating. So the back side of the bridge is nicely laying on the body which also gives better sustain compared to floating. Back side is blocked but the front isn't so you can do dive bombs etc. What's make the difference with a blocked floyd rose while restringing the guitar? That the sprint is not changing the tone when you tune it? And that you don't need to adjust it to have a flat bridge? Yeah, springs cannot pull it back when you remove one or all strings which happens when it's not blocked, this way it stays at the same place all the time unless you use whammy bar and pull it down, tho you can't pull it up. -------------------- Youtube
