Being one who mics low wattage amps all the time and also plays (until recently) live with both a TS and an OCD, I personally don't find them all that similar. TS is great for boosting and tightening an already overdriven amp - any overdriven amp. The OCD is a "distortion" box. Though it can be used as a clean(er) boost it doesn't work as well tightening up a crancked amp. It has too much low end.
I recommend both. *As to the genealogy of the OCD; V1 is harder edged, V2 has smoother top end and a touch more compression, OCD ge (germanium diodes) more open sounding and will get into fuzz territory at it's top gain settings, V2.2 slightly less compression resulting in higher and potentially cleaner headroom. *The newest versions of the OCDs have switchable true or buffered bypass. I used to have the BB Preamp + and an OCD v4 on my pedal board, and the OCD was my go to. power it with 12-18v rather than 9v
I wasn't playing metal so take that into consideration, for me it was a nice grainy low to medium pedal -------------------- My SoundCloud

yes. I did some research about the ocd, and demos on you tube, which pointed at the big difference between the two, same as you pointed out, I've never used a ocd, so I wasn't familiar with it, and I was looking for a good distortion pedal so that's why I decided on that one. thanks It's a great distortion pedal. *All Fulltone gear is top notch. -------------------- - Ken Lasaine
