I think it is best if people post there info in here Ivan and one person adds to wiki as if you are both editing same wiki at same time as another and save then it will override what they have done when the other person saves and their list will disappear.

Good idea Paul. That's exactly what happened to me. Had everything the way I wanted it and boom, it was gone laugh.gif

I would say anyone can put the gear, as long he recorded something with it on GMC, it's pretty logical. smile.gif

Actually, wikis don't really work that way, oddly enough. Wikis are pretty tough.

It should be smart enough to know if we're adding our own gear simultaneously to be able to resolve the multiple edit and put them in. If you have multiple people making changes to the same piece (say, me and Ivan editing the same words in tonymiro's list) only one of our edits will show in the doc, but if you go to the History, you can seen both edits and then make one or the other override later.

At least that's how it should work. tongue.gif

I'm going off the grid in a couple hours and won't be touching any of this til Monday so you won't have to worry about me goofing with anything. biggrin.gif

I was thinking that in the mean time, we should probably come up with some kind of date...like next Friday (20 June) to start working out how to reformat/reindex/categorize the data that we have. We can stick up a "draft" page somewhere where we can mess with the formatting and then when we come up with something that works, flip it into the live page. From that point on, new additions should be added into the new formatting.

Just a thought.

I have my recording gear up there and I haven't posted any sounds yet. I'm working on it. Other things get in the way..biggrin.gif

I see thie page as providing a list of people that are actually familiar with certain pieces of equipment. If I'm looking at a particular mic or a mixer and I see that Ivan has it already, I'm going to get in touch with him and ask about it.

There are probably a lot of other ways the info could be useful (wikis are funny like that) but that was my first thought.

Also, I've always wanted to do a rundown of the basic sounds of all my gear. Kind of a direct compare of the sound of my guitars through the same amp, walkthrough of the sounds in a pedal, stuff like that. I spend a lot of time listening to sound samples of stuff online because CG tends to not have what I'm looking for and reviews of sound gear without samples aren't very useful to me.

Those are pretty interesting thoughts Scott. We shall discuss the new format more thoroughly before we go ahead with the changes. smile.gif

Do you you have to type out all the code that you see in the above entries or is there an easier way?

That'd be awesome! I know a lot of the instructors use the Steve Vai JEM (the white one), and there are a lot of people that own a parker fly. That's really influenced me to look at those guitars. Theres also a lot of Les Paul studios.

I spelled my username wrong...I didn't even think that was possible!

Look at the topic for my guitar...
Finished Guitar Build

Gear:
Homemade strat (You still need to look at its topic!)
Squier strat (probably going to get rid of it and get another guitar instead) :)
Line 6 spider amp (not actually used for anything, just acts as a speaker)
Digitech Gnx2 (kind of old, but cheap, and sounds amazing!)

Maybe split the wiki into members gear and instructors gear, or add some form of colour coding to it.

I can imagine soon it will be quite hard to find a specific persons gear because there would be so many on the list.

Don't worry Sam, as soon as we collect a reasonable amount of data from all instructors and most of the memebers that record often on GMC, than we will introduce a new layout. smile.gif
