If you want to play metal then you should definitely learn harmonic minor scale

Muris has a nice one for beginers

DO you understand the modes?, I would suggest looking into this, the great thing about modes is you already know the scale shapes if your major or minor scale, it is just some knew knowledge that will help you obtain different sounds.

Other Scales I'm going to suggest:

Harmonic Minor (Natural minor with augmented seventh)
Melodic Minor (Natural Minor with augmented seventh and augmented 6th)

Thanks Jose Mena

Not really i think. I'm gonna take a look on GMC theory board and browse the videolessons to learn modes
Got any suggestions on lesson (theory or video) for learning modes? (with some background information: so i know what i'm doing tongue.gif )

already found some lessons that seems interesting

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/modes-workshop-part1-alternate-picking/ ://https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/so...rnate-picking/

What is more appropriatly? Should i learn first the modes on my scales i know or learn the new harmonic minor scale?

I would start with the Harmonic Minor since you are interested in metal, great scale for metal. But it is really a matter of choice.

I will have to agree with everybody here and advise you to start on harmonic minor scale. If you already know a standard minor scale, the harmonic minor is very similar - it only has VII degree of the minor scale augmented (VII #). On the fretboard all you have to do is move that VII degree of the minor scale one fret to the right and there you go - a harmonic minor scale.

Learn harmonic minor then learn 5th mode of that scale (phrygian dominant). Then learn some sweep picking and alternate picking for arpeggios , and you will be able to shred Yngwie songs already.
