Hey GMC,
I'm trying to learn different scales and practicing these with backingtrack, the lessons on GMC, favorite song and my own songs  .I already know a little the pent maj / min scale; bleus scale; major and minor scale: in different places on my guitar but I still have to practicing them more. If you want to play metal then you should definitely learn harmonic minor scale

I would start with the Harmonic Minor since you are interested in metal, great scale for metal. But it is really a matter of choice.

I will have to agree with everybody here and advise you to start on harmonic minor scale. If you already know a standard minor scale, the harmonic minor is very similar - it only has VII degree of the minor scale augmented (VII #). On the fretboard all you have to do is move that VII degree of the minor scale one fret to the right and there you go - a harmonic minor scale.
