Hi, I'm Janice, Introduction Options

Hey everyone,

My name's Janice and I'm trying out a 6-month subscription here at GMC. Just wanted to say hi and if anyone has some tips for how I could make the most of my time here, it'd be greatly appreciated. I only play acoustic guitar and know most of the basic guitar chords. I understand how to read tabs but I haven't practiced much and I also don't know many different strumming or finger-picking styles.

I sing first and foremost so the instrumental piece has taken a back seat so far, but I am starting to write my own music and it'd be helpful for me to be able to play better! (I'm coming here from The Muse's Muse Songwriting boards by the way, if anyone knows of it).

Hi Janice, welcome aboard. Best thing to do here is to video yourself playing the guitar and let the instructors see it, then they can analyse your playing and give you help with techniques.

Making a video of myself playing for critique sounds very scary but I can see how that would really help and it's a really cool feature of this site. I will make a promise to myself to post a video at some point!

Be sure to look at the lesson section and you can look up certain lessons by style of performer or style of music-
Best thing to do is browse around and get comfortable-you'll find something real fast that might interest you.

Thanks also for offering your mentorship, I think I'd like to ask for help in the future with developing the guitar instrumental for one of my songs. I hope that'd be okay!

@Darius: Hi! I guess I haven't really thought about specific pieces I'd like to play. I actually am just hoping to be able to play my own music better and add some more variation in the guitar instrumental pieces for my songs so they aren't so boring lol! I will need to slowly work up my nerve to share my playing but I have made a promise to post a video at some point in order to get better!
