I've Recorded Myself...but Singing, So... Options

Well I do not know if there is any singer instructor at GMC, but I 'm sure you know this song, so if you want, tell me what do you think, I know many of you are also singers so...help me to improve.


These was not my best shot but it is the only one i've recorded (because my camera is broken)

The guitar sucks so do not take it into account pleasee, i was thinking just in the lyrics, I should had learned, next time I will do it ...

I now what I am doing wrong, but I need others opinons

Hey mate! The notes are correct but from what I hear, your larynx is sometimes lowered and you're constricting your voice, resulting in a lack of sustain on longer notes.

I could tell you some more if I could see your face moving up front (meaning that you should film yourself face to face with the camera)

Axl Rose is a twanger - that means he uses a technique commonly known as twang, which can be achieved if singing with your tongue as close to the top of the interior of your mouth. A good example is the way Bugs Bunny talks (don't laugh)

Another advice - smile when you sing that will bring your larynx up and ease the using of twang.

Search for 'vocal twang' on youtube if you want to hear diverse samples and also check out www.trainmyvoice.com - this is where you can read about EVTS technique which explains twang thoroughly record some more stuff and we can talk about it

Sounds really cool to me, you've got a good melodic ability and you can sing in tune !

I don't know anything about twang but Cosmin seems to have some great advice there. One of the only things I do know about singing is it's ideal to keep your head in a nuetral position as much as possible, not tilted up or down, or to the side.. if you tilt your head it puts strain on your larynx.. so try and keep it as straight ahead and relaxed as possible. Check out some 80's video's of Rob Halford with Priest.. he was very 'straight on' when singing back then and it looked like he hardly needed to put any effort in.

Very true another good example regarding the singing position is Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson - have you ever noticed how he anchors his feet onto the stage and sometimes uses his arms (actually engaging his back muscles in order to obtain sustain)?

Cosmin,what's up, doc? (bugs bunny way ) my friend, great clinic yesterday!

yes i am pushing a bit, the sad thing is that I know i shouldn't do that way, but bad habbits are still wininig inside my head . the same thing as regarding moving my head, (but this is a new bad habbit!) just do it when singing with my acoustic, not with the band fourtunately.

Yes I know the twang, also country singers uses alot, i will practice it even though it is not my goal to sing like axel rose .

The thing with the smile i know that it is beause by smiling you separate your flesh from you craneos ( I mean skull, ??) allowing a better head resonation.
