Yeah, don't know if the card approach will become popular but I think its time that soldering should be out of our lives

I saw this at NAMM and thought it would be a great hit... but there has been ZERO buzz about it since then.

Yeah, must have been late Jan or early Feb, seems so long ago now! Exactly, there has been zero talk about it since then. I almost thought that maybe they'd changed their minds and not gone with it.

It was the middle of January and there wasn't even much interest in the fender room.
Its not exactly a new concept either. In the 70s a company called Electra made a few models called 'MPC' where you could plug in small modules in the back of the guitar for different EQ curves as well as effects. There's a company called Toneshaper that has an under the pickguard switching system for every possible combination on a Strat including eq variations. EMG does that too and both SD and Dimarzio have solderless options. So far, none of its been particularly popular - ? -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

The 'wiring' cards options that Fender is offering are all (so far) pretty standard mods that a lot of guys and gals do anyway.
For example: adding the bridge pkup to any other combo. That's been a standard 'mod' since the mid 70s. Same for the series/parallel option. These two very useful and good sounding mods can be done with either one mini switch on the pkguard or with a push/pull pot on the back tone control. Also any tech can do it cheap if you don't want to. The 'insertion' of little cards is recipe for failure not too mention losing or misplaced cards. A recessed switching system is a much better and more 'pro' approach. This post has been edited by klasaine: Jun 27 2014, 11:20 AM -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

My idea would be standardizing the switch, like S.D. Liberator style easy connections but manufactured that way so it would be much more affordable .
