I found a website with some good info about modes which you guys might like to check out, with examples that you can listen to. The address is - www.torvund.net/guitar/index.php?page=theory. It's obviosly not as good as GMC, but it all helps! For example, there is an explanation of the song 'Scarborough Fair' which turns out to be in D dorian, as, although the key signature has one flat (D minor), the only B note in the melody is naturlized to 'B' (instead of Bb), making the scale DEFGABCD - D dorian. The chords used are also D min and C major (i and VII), which are apparently important in the dorian mode. The B dim chord is also avoided because it wants to resolve to C which would lead the piece away from the D minor feel. Easy!! I'm getting there...
Just a quick suggestion to keep up the 'pressure' for some Alex Lifeson stuff. The solo from 'Working Man' or the whole of 2112 would be great! I'm working my way through a Rush tab book, but a video lesson or two would make life so much easier!
